Liverpool transfer news live amid Las Palmas updates and Zubimendi contract (2024)

Liverpool has already long since won the "race" to be the final Premier League side to make a transfer. But it has subsequently been in a battle with itself to see whether a significant arrival or sale will happen first, with the window eerily quiet on both fronts at Anfield.

It looks as though outgoing business will be completed first, with Fabio Carvalho on the brink of completing a move to Brentford. Liverpool will hope that Martin Zubimendi will pass him on the way in, although there is still work to be done on that deal.

Elsewhere, Giorgi Mamardashvili is being linked with a move to Liverpool, as are familiar names like Anthony Gordon. As always, we'll keep you up to date with the latest transfer news — along with the small matter of two friendlies being played at Anfield.

Some more friendly match reaction

Liverpool concluded their pre-season campaign with two friendlies on Sunday against Sevilla and Las Palmas. They ran out 4-1 winners against Sevilla and drew 0-0 with Las Palmas.

The latter contest saw Arne Slot utilise a second-string side against Las Palmas, which offered up an opportunity for some players to stake a claim for the clash against Ipswich Town next week. But did anyone put their hands up?

FULL-TIME

It ends 0-0 at Anfield.

Las Palmas had a chance towards the end that could have seen them nick a win at Anfield but Ivan Gil was unable to divert a cross into the Reds goal.

Pre-season friendlies are done. Portman Road and Ipswich Town next week beckon.

Match reaction to follow.

Cooling off

77 minutes on the clock and play has been stopped for a water break. Arne Slot is giving his young side some instructions on the touchline with Liverpool looking for a breakthrough.

Another chance for Liverpool

Ben Doak goes on a run into the Las Palmas box only to find his path blocked. He lays it off to Conor Bradley whose vicious strike is saved by Cillessen.

Substitution for Liverpool

Nat Phillips, Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez are off.

Harvey Blair, Tyler Morton and Amara Nallo are on.

Chance!

Andy Robertson rattles the post for the Reds with a fine effort that had Cillessen beaten. The Scotsman has now been substituted with an hour played, being replaced by Calum Scanlon.

Oscar Maung-Haley

Chance!

Liverpool counter after a chance by Las Palmas. Cody Gakpo feeds Andy Robertson, who gets to the byline to put a cross in. Cillessen gets a hand to it before Endo's follow up header is saved.

Then moments later, Nunez is put through on goal, but Cillessen again saves. He should have scored.

Back underway at Anfield

HALF-TIME

Half-time here at Anfield.

0-0, not too much to shout about compared to the earlier game against Sevilla but Liverpool have had their moments.

Another chance for Doak!

Ball into the box from Andy Robertson sees Harvey Elliot beaten in the air by Alex Munoz. However, Doak, who collected the loose ball, could only fire a tame effort at Cillessen.

Another chance for Liverpool

Ben Doak shows off some fantastic feet, cutting inside off the right-wing before having a shot blocked by the Las Palmas defence.

It has been reported Doak, who was not expected to feature this weekend, could be on his way out of Anfield this summer, either on loan or permanently.

Here's the latest on Doak's future.

Save!

Cracking save by Kelleher sees the Liverpool keeper deny Las Palmas' Alex Suarez from a corner.

Oscar Maung-Haley

Chances!

Some nice build-up play from Liverpool sees Endo slide Cody Gakpo through on goal. The Dutchman had the goal at his mercy but had his shot saved by Cillessen.

Then moments later, Nunez has the ball in the back of the net after getting onto the end of Ben Doak's header across the box but the Uruguayan is offside...

Oscar Maung-Haley

Ouch!

Not much to shout about so far from an attacking perspective for Liverpool.

Harvey Elliot has just been clattered though by Javi Munoz who was booked for the challenge. Elliot also went into the book for his reaction but looks following the incident.

Sepp van den Berg benched

Interestingly, Nat Phillips has been handed a start over Sepp van den Berg for Liverpool's final pre-season game before they return to action in the Premier League.

The Dutchman has been linked with a move away from Anfield this summer, and with Phillips starting ahead of him, it could signal a move in the next few days could be on the cards.

Ryan Gravenberch gives Arne Slot midfield headache in Martin Zubimendi transfer chase

Against Sevilla, Dutch midfielder Ryan Gravenberch impressed once again at the base of Liverpool's midfield alongside Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

With the Reds, who beat Sevilla 4-1, currently still chasing the signature of Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi, could Arne Slot's compatriot have given the Liverpool boss cause for thought following his impressive pre-season display?

Liverpool.com's Matt Addison gives his thoughts here.

One to watch

The hype around Liverpool youngster Trey Nyoni will only have risen after his wonderful strike against Sevilla at Anfield.

The 17-year-old has featured during pre-season under Arne Slot, but will likely have to wait for his full Premier League debut according to the Dutchman, who is keen to temper expectations around the midfielder.

Slot explained why here.

Las Palmas still to come

Remember, Liverpool is playing two friendlies today. If you were wondering why we didn't see the likes of Harvey Elliott, Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez, I expect we'll be seeing them soon.

The game against Las Palmas will be behind closed doors, having been organized too late to sort out the logistics for another capacity Anfield crowd. But you can follow it from this live blog, or watch on LFC TV GO.

With the influx of returning internationals, Slot felt the need for two games. He explained his thinking here.

James Martin

A great outing

Liverpool was by far the better side there. It's great to see Arne Slot's ideas coming together, especially among the players who have only been back for a matter of days.

Ryan Gravenberch was among those who impressed. You can read our player ratings here.
