Euna Faye Kelly Stroud, 83

Euna Faye Kelly Stroud, 83, of Hendersonville, passed away on Friday, June 24, 2016 at Sunnybrook Assisted Living. A lifelong resident of Henderson County she was a daughter of the late Dolly Capps and George Kelly. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Grady Stroud; two brothers and two sisters.

Mrs. Stroud was a member of Cedar Springs Baptist Church. She found great enjoyment in her many jobs, which included floral design, JP Stevens and Camp Greystone. She was a loving wife, mother and excellent cook.

Survivors include her two daughters, Patsy Hermanson and husband Gus of Columbia, SC, Betty Anglin and husband Edward of Hendersonville; one son, Bobby Stroud and wife Sheila of Hendersonville; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and five sisters.

Funeral services will be held 2pm on Sunday, June 26, 2016 in the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the park.

Allene Moore Brown, 76

Allene Moore Brown, 76, of Mountain Home, NC went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 22, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County. She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Gene Floyd Brown Sr; her parents Martin “MH” and Ila Summers Moore; a brother, Eugene Moore; three sisters, Lucille Quinn, Maxine Horne and Christine Williams.
She graduated from Edneyville High School and had worked at General Electric and retired from Asheville Industries. She was a devoted wife, mother, and Mamaw who loved her family and friends. Her sweet smile and loving heart will be missed by all. As her memory started to fail she enjoyed her days at CarePartners Adult Day Services in Hendersonville. We would like to thank Four Seasons Hospice and CarePartners Adult Day Services for the excellent care they gave her.
She was a faithful member of Naples Baptist Church and loved her Lord.
She is survived by a son, Gene Brown Jr. and his wife Karen of Mountain Home; a daughter, Karen Haug of Zirconia; two sisters, Betty Hammond and her husband John of Hendersonville and Frances Owens and her husband Garrett of Florida; four grandchildren, Amber Shepherd and her husband Chris of Hendersonville, Jamie Praytor and husband Billy of Etowah, Brandon and Brentley Orr and his fiancé Haley Hewitt all of Zirconia; six great grandchildren, Owen, Gwen, Myna and Journey Shepherd, Kyle and Mackenzie Praytor; a great granddaughter, Makenna Dejournett and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, June 25th at Naples Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Merck officiating. Burial will follow at Shepherd Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church and at other times will be at the home of Gene and Karen Brown.

Barry Tully, 83

Barry Tully, 83, of Hendersonville, NC passed away peacefully on June 21, 2016. Barry is survived by his loving wife Elaine, and four children Chris, Sarah, Jason, and Emily. Barry was born and grew up in Hackensack, NJ. In 1953 he enlisted in the Navy, and spent four years actively serving his country as a Navy Pilot. He remained in the service for 16 years as a reservist reaching the rank of Commander. An avid pilot, Barry worked the majority of his life in New York City as an aviation journalist and then copywriter. In 1996 he and his family moved to Hendersonville, where, in retirement, he spent 20 years enjoying life in the mountains. A voracious reader, history buff, sports enthusiast and hiker, Barry spent his time combing the library, backpacking with his daughter, and regaling friends and family with endless tales.

A casual celebration of his life will be held on Monday, June 27 at The Cedars in Hendersonville beginning at 12:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made for Alzheimer’s research and support at http://www.alzfdn.org/.

Florence Owenby Guice, 93

Florence Owenby Guice, 93 of Hendersonville went home to be with the Lord on Saturday June 18, 2016 at Pardee Hospital.
A native of Henderson County she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Josephine Capps Owenby. and the wife of the late Thomas Newton Guice. She was preceded in death by one son, one brother and two sisters.
A member of Mud Creek Baptist Church, Florence was a Godly woman. She loved to play dominos, and she loved her family.
Survivors include, one son, Donald Guice and his wife Henrietta of Hendersonville, two daughters, Pamela Guice Crawford and her husband Gene of Westminister, S.C., and Marcia Guice Smith and her husband Richard of Fairview, N.C. seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at the Chapel In The Pines of Jackson Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel.

Thomas Douglas Dalton III

Thomas Douglas Dalton III of Hendersonville, passed away on June 15, 2016, peacefully in his home. He was born on March 19, 1950 to Douglas and Marilyn Dalton at Patton Memorial Hospital in Hendersonville. He was a 1967 graduate of West Henderson High School. He obtained an Undergraduate Degree in NC and then obtained his Master’s Degree at Western Carolina University. T.D. first worked primarily in the education field as a School Psychologist and then worked at Goodwill Industries for the latter part of his life. Tommy loved cool cars, watching car races on TV and fishing. His love for learning never ceased. He especially loved his granddaughter, Victoria, and they had a very special bond. He is survived by his adored daughter, Leslie Dalton Thibeault and her husband, Steven and their daughter Victoria. His surviving siblings include Robbie Dalton Goolsby, Randi Dalton Bridges and Sean Dalton. A private family memorial will be held in July 2016. The family requests that memorials or donations be made to Goodwill Industries or the Humane Society Thrift Store. The family also wishes to give many thanks for the support, kindness and friendship that was given to Tom at Goodwill Industries, Bonaire Motel, First Citizen’s Bank and Ingles. Ronald William Anderson, 81

Ronald William Anderson, 81, of Hendersonville passed into glory Saturday, June 11, 2016 at St. Joseph-Mission Hospital in Asheville.

He was the son of Roy and Ellen (nee Olson) Anderson of Chicago, IL. Ron was born in Chicago and graduated from William Howard Taft High School in 1951. He received a BS in Industrial Engineering and Management Science from Northwestern University in 1956. He raised his family in Ann Arbor, MI, working at Hines (balancing machines). He was an active member of Huron Hills Church, including singing in the choir. He wrote the “Flex User Notes” column in 68 Micro Journal. He retired in 1999 to Hendersonville, NC.

Ron was a member and officer of the Hendersonville Camera Club. He attended First Baptist Church where he sang in both of the choirs over 17 years. He also sang with the J.O.Y. Singers.

Ron had a heart for widows and would volunteer to help with home maintenance chores.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Evelyn; his daughter, Pamela (Joseph) Mullaney; his son, David W. Anderson; and his grandson, Daniel Mullaney.

A Celebration of Life Service is to be held at First Baptist Church, 312 5th Ave W, Hendersonville at 2:00pm on Sunday, June 26, with the Rev. Dave Marshall officiating. A
reception will begin at 1:00pm.

A private burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Evelyn G. Randolph, 74

Evelyn G. Randolph, 74, of Hendersonville, NC went to be with the Lord, Sunday, June 12, 2016 at the Elizabeth House.
She was a native of Haywood County and had lived in Henderson County for most of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Randolph; her parents, Rose and Finley Gaddy; two children, Jonathan Lamar Hamilton and Marilyn K. Hamilton; two brothers, Daniel and Junior Gaddy and four sisters, Polly Dodd, Mary Jo Edwards, Lorraine Hunt and Ellen AngelilloJ.
She was known to be a great cook and had received many awards for her dietary skills.
She is survived by her daughter, Andrea Beth Gibbs and her husband Bruce of Hendersonville; three grandchildren, Kayla Elizabeth Latham, Landon G. Gibbs and Lacrisha Lynn Hamilton; a sister, Louise Penland of Weaverville; a brother, Eddie Gaddy of Mars Hill and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 15th at the Chapel In The Pines of Jackson Funeral Service with Rev. Travis Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel.

Lowell Emerson Dunn Jr, 70, of Hendersonville N.C. passed away June 10 2016
He was preceded in death by his wife Beaulah Brittie.
He was born and raised in Greenville, Ohio. After graduating high school he joined the U. S. Marine Corp and served two tours of duty in Vietnam
He had been a member and on the board of the W.N.C Air Museum.
He is survived by his son Kelly Dunn, four grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service held for him on June 14 at 6:00 pm at Mt View Baptist Church in Zirconia, N.C.

Wanda Currence Neal, 60

Wanda Currence Neal, 60 of Flat Rock went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday June 8, 2016 at Mission Hospital in Asheville NC. She was the daughter of the late James L. and Eulaila Bailey Currence. She was a member of Pinecrest Presbyterian Church and worked for Bonclarken Conference Center.

Survivors include her loving husband of 39 years, Wade Eric Neal, two sons, Christopher and Matthew Neal both of Clayton, NC, three brothers, Thomas Currence and his wife Norma, Charles Currence and his wife Pat and James “ Jim” Currence and his wife Janice, all of Rock Hill, SC, two sisters Annie McKown and her husband James and Nancy Lowery and het husband Jackie all of Rock Hill, SC , one special friend who Wanda affectionately referred to as her adopted mother, Peggy Barnes of Flat Rock, NC and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held Friday June 10, 2016 at Pinecrest Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Barbara C. Whitaker, 60

Barbara C. Whitaker, 60, of Hendersonville passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2016 after an extended illness. She was the daughter of the late Ella Cutshaw and Wiley M. Conner. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Michael R. Whitaker; daughter, Laura Ann Staggs; and brother, Wiley “Lynn” Conner.

Barbara was a member of Mud Creek Baptist Church and active in the choir for 20 plus years. She was greatly involved in the PTO during her children’s youth and retired from Diamond Brand Outdoors. Barbara was known as the “Queen of Laundry”- every wrinkle and stain were at her command.

Survivors include her two daughters, Ashely and Amber Whitaker both of Hendersonville; one step-son, Benny Whitaker of Asheville; three grandsons, Joshua Cabe McConnell, Noah Michael Whitaker and Isaiah Caleb Partridge; three sisters, Peggy Taylor of TN, Della Helms and husband, Kevin, of Charlotte and Fonda Haskins and husband, Jerry, of Hendersonville; two brothers, Charles Conner of TN and Tony Conner and wife Glenda of Hendersonville.

Funeral services will be held at Mud Creek Baptist Church on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 2pm. The family will receive friends at the church an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Shepherd Memorial Park.

Walter Garden Scott, 96

Walter Garden Scott, age 96 of Hendersonville died Tuesday, May 24th, 2016 at the Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY to the late Andrew Scott and Marie Zoygeu Scott. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Mavis Scott.

Mr. Scott was a veteran of World War II having served with the occupation forces in both Japan and the Philippines. He resided in Hendersonville for the past eleven years and was a member of the Hendersonville Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by four step-children, Dale F. Wagner, Douglas J. Wagner, Dana K. Wagner, and Diane Woodman Ashton; a nephew, John Garman; and a niece, Susan Hess; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 11th, 2016 at the Hendersonville Presbyterian Church conducted by the Reverend Bill Campbell.

Cheryl Drake Isleib, 61,

Cheryl Drake Isleib, 61, of Hendersonville died Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Pardee Memorial Hospital. She was born in Henderson County on January 2, 1955; to the late Thomas “Temo” Drake and Barbara Sentell Drake Johnson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Kenneth Byers Johnson; her infant sister, Chandra L. Drake; her aunt, Camill Sentell Brown; her step-sister, Sherry Johnson; her step-brother, D Byers Johnson; and her “four legged child”, Phil.

A native of Henderson County; Cheryl was a proud Bearcat, graduating from Hendersonville High School in 1973. Cheryl moved to Florida where she met her husband, Jeffrey. After returning to Hendersonville, Cheryl was employed for almost 20 years in Medical Records at Pardee Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Cheryl had a gigantic heart; she loved animals, especially Canada Geese and Horses.

She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Jeffrey Clinton Isleib; sister, Tammi Drake Neill and her husband, Roy Neill; nephew, Preston Drake English; and her 18 year old cat, Betsy all of Hendersonville.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at Thos. Shepherd’s Church Street Chapel with Father Roberto Perez officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Wilburn Jerry Lamb 78

Wilburn Jerry Lamb 78, of Hendersonville, NC passed away suddenly, Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at his home.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County and was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Hoots Lamb.
He was a lifelong member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and had attended King’s Grove Baptist Church.
He owned and operated Lamb’s Automotive Machine Shop and built engines for over 42 years. He was an avid drag racer, loved the Blue Ridge Mountains, Bluegrass Music, camping and spending time with the family he loved.
He is survived by a son, Alan J. Lamb of Hendersonville; two daughters, Teresa L. Ownbey and husband Dickie of Hendersonville and Diane L. Blackwell and husband Charles R. of Rochester, Minnesota; a sister, Wilma Summey of Hendersonville; six grandchildren, Jared R. Ownbey and wife Lauren, Rachel Ownbey Haynes and her husband Michael, Autumn and Jacob Lamb, Katherine and Joseph Blackwell; eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 3:00 pm Sunday, June 5, 2016 at King’s Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Phillip Capell officiating. Burial will follow in the Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery.

Joe Marion Whitt, 87

Joe Marion Whitt, 87, of Asheville passed away Saturday evening, May 28, 2016 at Given’s Health Center near Asheville. Joe was born May 13, 1929 in Madison County to Zeb and Byrdie Whitt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Allen Whitt and Bailey Whitt. Joe was raised and attended school in Madison County and married Bertha Heydock Whitt in 1952. He worked in a family business, known as OK Tire in Candler, which was owned by his brother, Bailey Whitt. Later, he was employed by the NC DMV as an inspector. Joe owned and operated Joe Whitt Hydraulic Service until he was 82. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, politics and watching ball games. He also liked donating his time to his church and the Land-o-the-Sky Shrine Club’s annual horse show. Joe loved delicious home-cooking and the countryside of life at the home place near Bat Cave with Bertha, his wife of 64 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Mitch (Brenda) of Mills River; grandchildren, Zeb and Megan; sister-in-law, Carolyn Vess (Harold and Dean); along with extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Sunday, June 5, 2016 at the Church of the Transfiguration in Bat Cave. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Philip Spencer Cagle, 80

Philip Spencer Cagle, 80, of Hendersonville passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock.
A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, he was the son of the late William “Bill” Cagle and Viola Cagle. Philip was also preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Nellie Ruth Cagle; a son, Rodney Wayne Cagle; and a sister, Betty Ann Doughtery.
Mr. Cagle retired from the Hendersonville Fire Department with 30 years of service.
He is survived by his daughters, Pam Cagle and Kim Owenby and husband, Dean, of Hendersonville; a son, Dean Cagle and wife, Brenda, of Mills River; two grandchildren, Lauren Jones of Asheville and Leah Burleson of Charlotte; two brothers, John Cagle and wife, Mary Ann, and David Cagle and Jim Crook; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11 AM Friday, June 3, 2016 at Shepherd Memorial Park. The Reverend Richard Merck will officiate.

Carrol David “Ganga” Halford, 80

Carrol David “Ganga” Halford, 80, of Hendersonville, NC passed away Monday, May 23, 2016 peacefully at the Solace Center in Asheville, NC. He was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County and was preceded in death by his wife Louise Blankenship Halford, his parents, David and Vauda Lance “ Bob” Halford, a brother, Joe Halford and a brother-in-law, Arthur Blankenship. Carrol dearly loved his family and friends and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a very talented musician who was passionate about gospel and country music, enjoyed playing golf and watching Tarheel Basketball. He graduated from Flat Rock High School as a decorated athlete, retired from GE and attended Mud Creek Baptist Church. He is survived by two daughters, Rhonda Summerville and her husband Pete of Hendersonville and Roxanne Glover and her husband Marvin of Mt. Pleasant, SC; three granddaughters, Kelsi McMurray, Ashley Hofer and Lindsey Hofer; a brother-in-law, Mickey Blankenship and his wife Judy of Gastonia, NC; two sisters-in-law, Jolee Blankenship of Pendergrass, GA and Edith Halford of Hendersonville; special cousins, Ernest and Geraldine Wyatt and Doug Wilson; four nieces and one nephew. A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, May 28th at the Chapel In The Pines of Jackson Funeral Service with Rev. Robert Floyd and Rev. David Stanford officiating. Burial will follow at Shepherd Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm prior to the service in the chapel and at other times will be at Carrol’s home. Christina Marie Dinardo Fisher, 30

Christina Marie Dinardo Fisher, age 30 of Hendersonville passed into God’s Loving Arms on Tuesday, May 24th, 2016 at her residence following a courageous four year battle with cancer. She was born in Transylvania County; a daughter of Leonard Dinardo, Jr. and Deborah Ann Hobbick Dinardo. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Francis Kelly Hobbick; and paternal grandmother, Margaret Murray Dinardo; and her uncle, Patrick Raymond Hobbick.

Christina graduated from West Henderson High School and East Carolina University. She was employed with Morrow Insurance for ten years. She volunteered with United Way’s Relay for Life. She was a believer in retail therapy, and giving was natural to her soul.

In addition to her parents; she is survived by her loving canine companion, Reece; her husband, Josh Fisher; two sisters, Michelle Kathleen Dinardo and Danielle Angeline Dinardo and fiancé, Ben Hill; one brother, Leonard Anthony Dinardo and wife, Hannah; her maternal grandmother, Linda Hobbick; paternal grandfather, Leonard Dinardo, Sr.; Godparents, Pam and Khris McCoy, Michael and Liz Dinardo; and numerous family members and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 28th, 2016 in the Sanctuary of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church conducted by Father Roberto Perez. Burial will follow in Shepherd Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 Friday evening at Thos. Shepherd & Son Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Christina’s memory be directed to the Lovelight Fund of Cancer Care of WNC, 445 Biltmore Avenue, Suite 100, Asheville, NC 28801.

Ruby Allison Gillum, 89

Ruby Allison Gillum, age 89 of Hendersonville died Tuesday, May 24th, 2016 at the Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation. She was born May 2nd, 1927 in Henderson County; a daughter of the late Clarence and Rebecca Allison. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Hilliard Ruff.

Ruby was a real servant; she was selfless and took care of everyone she met. She was of the Baptist Faith and was a member of the Hedrick-Rhodes V.F.W. Post #5206 Women’s Auxiliary.

She is survived by her son, Rick Ruff and wife, Tammy; two grandchildren, Lauren Glass and husband, Brian all of Hendersonville and Nathan Ruff of Greer, SC; two great-grandchildren; and her brother, Willie Allison and wife, Pat of Hendersonville.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 27th, 2016 at Shepherd Memorial Park conducted by the Reverend Ray Tally.

No formal visitation is planned.
