Guide for Devil May Cry HD Collection (2024)

Hello to all Devil May Cry fans, or gamers just passing through the DMC universe. Welcome to my Devil May Cry HD Collection Walkthrough. For any that are unaware, getting 1000G on this game will require you to persevere through three iterations of the Devil May Cry games from days gone by. There are some frustrating and challenging parts to this game, but it's a title that with practice, some patience, and a little grinding, you can get through to the end. By no means do you need to be a master of DMC to get 1000G (I know I'm not).

To cover the basics, there are no online achievements, and there are no missable achievements since you will be replaying missions quite frequently. Devil May Cry 2 and 3 allows you to jump into any mission you want, as soon as you complete it, to speed back and gather items you may have passed over. However, Devil May Cry 1 has no backtracking other than carrying over to new game plus, so if you do pass an item, there is a bit more backtracking and time involved. However, you will have PLENTY of opportunities to do everything you need to do.

There is a minimum of 14 playthroughs required across all three games, but trust me, you will need quite a few more than that unless you are amazingly good at this game. Recommended amount of playthroughs would be 19 full playthroughs, plus Bloody Palace Modes (2 playthroughs for that). If you want to count Bloody Palace, that would make it about 21 playthroughs by the end of your achievement hunting.

I will do my best not to mention any spoilers, or anything about the plot in general. I will however need to use names of the main characters and bosses for fighting references. Overall, I will attempt to make this as much of a spoiler free guide as possible.

Since there are 99 achievements in this game, it's going to take a little while to complete. This guide will be broken down on what I found was the best path to tackle all three games, but by NO MEANS is this the only way to go. If you would like to play the games in a different order, or jump around, be my guest. I will split the guide up per game to help you in that journey as you see fit. If you WOULD like to follow my suggestion of playthrough order, here is my breakdown and roadmap of how this guide is set up.

Devil May Cry 1

We will play and finish Devil May Cry 1 for starters. Not only will this give you the basics for how the combat system will work (and evolve with the series), but if you are brand new to DMC, it will give you a good start with the characters of the series as well. Achievement wise and difficulty wise to me, this is the hardest of the series, so we are going to just go ahead and get this out of the way. This will require at LEAST 3 playthroughs for difficulty related achievements, but I would recommend something closer to 6 or 7 playthroughs (you will see why later). Here is the rundown:

First playthrough is on Normal Mode, and we will be collecting all the blue orb fragments, doing all secret missions, collecting all weapons, and ensure no yellow orbs are used in the first go. We will knock out at least 28 of the 33 achievements in this one run, and possibly as many as 30.

Second playthrough is on Hard Mode, and is done automatically from the end of the normal mode. The goal here is to finish the mode using as few items as possible. There is a possibility that you will get 3 more achievements, depending on how you have been collecting orbs to put us at 31/33 achievements (depending if you grinded on Normal or not).

Third playthrough is an option depending on your skill level, but you can either go straight to Dante Must Die Mode (not recommended), or grind out Normal playthroughs to collect items that will be EXTREMELY useful for your Dante Must Die run, and to max out all your abilities and purple orbs (I will be covering the second option as it helps the majority of all players). We will also use these playthroughs to finish off collecting all of the data for each enemy in the game. By the end of your extra runs on Normal, you should be at 32/33 achievements

The final playthrough will be your Dante Must Die difficulty run. This will net you your final achievement for Devil May Cry 1, to round you out at 33/33 achievements for the game.

Devil May Cry 2

Next we will tackle Devil May Cry 2. This is considered by many as the weakest in the series. I hadn't played the game until I got the HD collection, and rather than give you my opinion, I will let you decide for yourselves what you think of it. This is by far the easiest of the 3 games to polish off, with the only real challenge coming for US owners in Bloody Palace Mode (more on that later). There will be at least 5 playthroughs of this game, plus a bloody palace run. Road map for this game is as follows:

First run is with Dante on Normal Mode. Like DMC 1, we will be collecting all blue orbs, completing all secret missions, and collecting all weapons during this playthrough. By the end of this, you should have 16 of the 33 achievements for DMC 2.

Next there will be a quick detour for some orb grinding. There is a great method for doing this, which will buffer you up in no time to finish upgrading all of Dante's weapons and guns, as well as finish buying purple orbs. If not already completed, we will also go back and S rank at least one mission for Dante on Normal. This should put us at 19/33 achievements.

Lucia is up next for her Normal run. During this run we will again be collecting all blue orbs, and secret missions to buff Lucia up, and collect all her weapons and devil hearts. Finishing this will bring the achievement count up to 25/33.

Following Lucia's Normal run, we will then do some grinding with her to max out her arsenals, and also S rank a Normal mission for Lucia in the process. This will get us to 27/33 achievements.

Next run will be as Dante on Hard difficulty. The goal here is only to beat the mode, nothing special. This will bring our achievement total to 28/33.

Now for a run on Hard with Lucia, the goal of this is nothing more than to unlock Dante Must Die Mode. Sadly no achievements will be earned in this playthrough.

Last story mode run will be with the now unlocked character Trish on Dante Must Die Mode. Finishing this will net us 2 more achievements, rounding us up to 30/33 achievements for the game.

The last piece will be the hardest depending on your region, Bloody Palace Mode. This will take a while, and you may need to grind items to be able to get through it. We will do the bloody palace with Trish and net us the final 3 achievements, bringing Devil May Cry 2 all the way to 33/33 achievements earned.

Devil May Cry 3

Saving the best for last, we will round out the series with Devil May Cry 3, considered by many to be the best of the DMC series (including 4 and the reboot). Again, I will let you decide for yourselves, but the gameplay will take a serious turn from the first two games here which is why I would recommend saving it for last. You will have to work on your skills more in this game than the other two, this is due to the plethora of abilities, weapons, switching, and cancelling you will use in this game. This is also considered by many as the hardest Devil May Cry game ever created (and has made a few top 20 hardest, but good games of all time lists). This game will require a full 6 playthroughs for difficulties, and another Bloody Palace run. Road map here will be as follows:

As usual, we will get started with a run through Normal difficulty. During this playthrough we will do all secret missions, collect all blue orbs and weapons, beat all optional bosses, and take a lot of demons down with us during the credits to net us 20 of the 33 achievements.

Following this will be a step back to Easy Mode (assuming you died enough times) with now unlocked character Vergil. Along with this, we will play this mode in Yellow Orb Mode to take care of two achievements at once. This should bring us to 22/33 achievements earned.

Back to Dante, and stepping up to Hard Mode (and back to Gold Orb Mode). Along with finishing this playthrough, we will go ahead and finish up gathering all of the purple and blue orbs in the store, bringing us up to 25/33 achievements.

Next up will be Very Hard Mode, and also finish maxing out the styles with Dante along the way. 2 more achievements will be earned, leaving the total at 27/33 achievements.

This is it, Dante Must Die Mode for the last time! Here, the only goal is to survive with your new character you just unlocked. By just beating this mode, we will only earn one achievement, getting us up to 28/33 achievements.

With our character we unlocked from Dante Must Die Mode, time to backtrack and play on Easy one more time to S rank every mission in the game. This will take some practice, even with your new buffed up friend you earned, but doing so will get us to 29/33 achievements.

Time to take some sweet revenge on everyone and beat Heaven or Hell Mode, a piece of cake and brings the achievement count to 30/33.

Finally the Bloody Palace Mode, which with everything we earned along the way, will not be that hard at all. Running through this mode will finish off the games last 3 achievements, bringing the total to 33/33, and now the whole collection will be at 99/99!

This will round out the series and net you the 1000G by the end, along with a nice TA Ratio. So get ready to sit back, knuckle up, and put up with my own brand of humor as we start to tackle Devil May Cry HD Edition!

Slight disclaimer here, I am NOT a Devil May Cry God like some on YouTube, and can't do the amazing things with the game like they can. This guide is written based on my experience with the game, and what worked/didn't work for me. I will not be able to teach you how to do no hit runs on Dante Must Die mode, super crazy combos on DMC3, or post super cool YouTube videos. The whole purpose of this guide is to help others that do not eat, sleep, and breathe Devil May Cry on a daily basis be able to conquer this beast of a game. I love this series, but really feel that I am average or, at best, above average at it. If I can do it, you can too!
