The Port Royal Sound Foundation Maritime Center is dedicated to the preservation and betterment of the unique salt marsh ecosystem. The museum is free and has staff who are very educational. There is a great place for family outing with marine life information found locally common to the area.
Great place to bring the children and grandchildren. Great displays and exhibits, some are hands on. We were there when a school group toured. They were able to pet snakes and alligators. Our grandson was able to pet them as well. I highly recommend a stop here.

Had such an AMAZING sunset cruise. Staff was friendly and the cocktails good! Best of all, we had dozens of dolphins all around the boat , and further out, for the entire 2 hours.

This is a wonderful place to take kids to learn about fish and for adults there is a party boat - the Salty Dog Cruise - that goes on the River Estuary. You can see the Atlantic Ocean while on the boat. We were very fortunate to see 2 dolphins swimming together while on the boat! Friendly crew and good service from the Cafe there which has wine and appetizers. Highly recommend!

Highly recommend the Kayak tour! Jessica was an excellent guide pointing out wildlife, explaining the marsh eco system and ensuring we would have a great experience and even saw dolphin! The tour is good for all ages and a great way to experience the waterways that make up the Low Country.

Port Royal Sound Foundation’s Maritime Center is a gem in the lowcountry. The free museum and interactive learning center offers a great introduction to the history and ecology of the region. Beyond that, the organization does a lot of great outreach and conservation work in the region.
Courtney K — Google review
I had visited a couple of times during their closed hours by accident; stuff going on with our vehicle, or just needing to stretch our legs. They have all these cool signs telling about whales and native plants. Yesterday, I got to go in with the kids. The workers went above and beyond to teach the kids about the local ecosystem and it's many inhabitants, and were able to switch gears and speak to us 'adults' to make everything as engaging as it was for the kids. This place is an absolute treasure for all ages. 10/10 will stop again!

We love this center! It’s free—though donations are appreciated. There is an art showcase, a beautiful map of the area, some history exhibits, and lots of animal exhibits and live displays. The volunteers are very kind and knowledgeable. We have attended a story time in the past and it was great as well.

Love Port Royal Sound! They do a great job on so many levels. I recently attended one of their Tuesday Talks at The Port Royal Sound Foundation Maritime Center which was given by The Center for Birds of Prey located near Charleston. It was very informative and the speaker brought 3 wild birds. I love these classes as it really helps people understand how delicate our environment is and to have info on how to help. A GREAT Center for young kids, teenagers and older folks like me. I highly recommend them.
Diane S — Google review
This is a small quiet place to rest and maybe learn some about the local area. Quite a bit to do but it's very much a one-time visit as you can probably view everything that has to offer within an hour. Does have a nice aquarium but there's a limited selection of aquatic life forms accessories seems to be designed to be a rest stop.

My 9yr old niece drew a picture and it hung up at this location. She was one of many childen that was chosen to have their picture place in a book for their school. Great job to all the children.

This was a fantastic place to visit! So much information in one little building. The volunteer was extremely helpful and very knowledgeable! We loved all the tanks with fish etc. And the dock to the sound was gorgeous and clean. Free admission (donations welcomed) with small gift shop and lots of local art.

The Coastal Discovery Museum is a learning center situated on 68 coastal acres. It offers educational programs and guided walks through ancient buildings, trees, and wildlife habitats. The venue includes salt marsh boardwalks, open fields, gardens, trails, and a butterfly habitat spanning 1200 square feet. This habitat is home to around 13 species of native butterflies found in the Lowcountry region. Visitors can explore the natural history and cultural heritage of the Honey Horn property.
This is a great spot to visit if you have an hour or two to explore the inner exhibits and the exterior trail. It's a very educational place and is great for all ages. We went in the rain which wasn't bad. We could still are our way outdoors with an umbrella and raincoat. We especially liked the history and lantern exhibit. Quite a nice treat.

I can’t believe I haven’t posted about Coastal Discovery Museum already. My family has been enjoying this place as a regular part of our annual HHI vacation traditions for six years. The Coastal Discovery Museum is a hub of activity on Hilton Head, but never too crowded. Located at historic Honey Horn, the museum is such a rich experience for visitors, whether your interest lies in history, animals, plants, the marsh, art, or even just shopping. The museum is free to browse both inside and outside the house. Just that can fill quite a bit of time. The galleries inside contain history, art displays, interactive nature lessons and hands-on activities for kids. There is also a gift shop containing both your traditional “touristy” souvenirs and more enriching items, along with some local goodies (canned foods, cookbooks, etc.). Outside, plants abound. There are observation piers to look for wildlife, and there is an enclosed butterfly sanctuary garden that is a truly special experience. And that’s just the free stuff! The classes and events at the CDM are some of my family’s favorite things to do on the island. Their website is my first stop when planning our vacation activities. We’ve enjoyed the indigo tie-dye class, hands-on animal encounters (both the critter meet & greet and the discovery lab classes are great), and the farmers’ market. The cost of educational events varies but is always 100% worth it. My kids are now 11, 9, and 3, and they all look forward to coming to the museum each year.

We had such a great time! We spent the first part exploring the indoor museum and were treated with animals, history and an amazingly knowledgeable volunteer who helped us gain our bearings and truly made us feel so welcome. Then we explored every bit of outside! So much beautiful nature to explore and so much to learn. Great for kids, adults, couples, everyone!

This place was so fun! We did the Under the Sea experience for$5 each and totally worth it. Was a great break from the beach and everyone enjoyed it! Each day has different scheduled activities so check out their website when planning your trip.

We had such a great day at the coastal discovery museum. The grounds are beautiful. There are so many things to see and learn about. We had an excellent tour guide who explained about Myrtle the turtle and horseshoe crabs. We spent about 2 hours in total there but easily could’ve taken longer! A great learning environment for kids and adults.
Katie C — Google review
Great spot to visit and learn about the island wildlife. There is a museum (with lots of info about the birds, fish and turtles), a few outdoor (and partially shaded) exhibits including a butterfly house, two walkways into the marshland, and a couple small barns. It's free for the most part (you can leave a donation if you want) and there is a small gift shop if you want to buy a souvenir. Overall this was a fun and informative place to go.
Mike M — Google review
The museum itself was delightful. But I paid full price for a ticket for the Gullah history tour, and I felt it was way overpriced. I would have liked more information about the history of the Gullah people and their culture here on the island and not just pointing out neighborhoods where they lived. There were very few butterflies in the butterfly house, and there were no carnivorous plants growing in the carnivorous plant exhibit.
Julie O — Google review
Kids had a blast. Be prepared to take journey as you walk around the property to the different exhibits. The scavenger hunt was fun as well as the fun facts. Would like to come back. We didn't see everything.
Tee C — Google review
So much history here, and other gems like the butterfly area, art gallery, bees, turtles, and other sea creatures. Make this a great place for a field trip or to bring the kids out for some adventure. The trees here are amazing and I also loved the horses. Didn't get to see everything, but I will be back
Eugene H — Google review
This little museum is an absolutely wonderful thing to do if you enjoy nature walks and scenery. There's chickens, a horse, bee hives, a camellia garden, a carnivorous plant garden, a butterfly house (butterflies are released for migration October-April), a piece from a NASA rocket, and plenty more 🥰The volunteers were all incredibly sweet, one of them gave me several cuttings after she noticed me admiring a potted plant near the front desk. Which made my visit that much better.Highly recommend it! But not great for a rainy day, as most of it is outside. Entry fee is just a $5 donation :)
Kathryn V — Google review
Considering it was free, we weren't expecting much. Came on a weekday and not many people were there. There were some nice exhibits inside. We walked the grounds and enjoyed the views of the marsh. The people working there were nice. Good place visit if you are first time visitors of HHI. Probably more fun for kids than adults.

Be prepared to walk.and bring bug spray. Very informative, nice walk-around to see the marshes and different plants/animals. Cute gift shop as well as some canned things for sale. Children's activities and live horseshoe crabs & a turtle!! Our kids loved it.

We toured the museum and its grounds and found both very interesting. We also took the Blue Crab Discovery tour with Carol Horowitz, who was an excellent guide! We enjoyed the Dolphin and Nature Cruise, and the crew was also excellent. We will definitely make a visit the next time we're in Hilton Head!

We visited the museum July 5th. It was very spacious with air conditioning. It has very beautiful local art displayed along with information about local wildlife, and Hilton Head history. We also took a class in the Exploratory Laboratory. Amanda taught us lots of fascinating information about alligators, horseshoe crabs, and the environment. She was very friendly and deeply invested. Thank you for a fun and educational outing!

Visited for the Gullah Celebration 2024. I am glad I was able to make it because it was a good presentation of all things Gullah on the island. There were lots of beautifully created crafts and I am sorry I could not buy them all!
LaQuita L — Google review
We stopped in to the museum to check it out with our 8 and 1 year old daughter's. There is a lot to explore on the grounds and inside the museum. They have a scavenger hunt for the kiddos to do which involves hitting all of the checkpoints on the map. Great for a quick home school lesson if you're on vacation and playing hooky! This kept us busy for a good couple of hours while exploring and learning about the low country and all it has to offer, as well as the history of the land. We visited towards the end of March and I think with it being the off season, the grounds needed some attention and they could stand to update a few things but all in all, it wasn't bad. I would assume it's a little more lively during the peak season. There was no entry fee but they do accept donations. There was a kids room inside the museum with their pet turtle and some other fun things for them to play with. There's a lot to learn inside and out. I would compare it to a National Park welcome center and gift shop. We're glad it wasn't raining because the scavenger hunt and trail are all outside so be prepared and plan for a fair weather day!

Our family had a great time visiting the Coastal Discovery Museum! The children’s room in the museum was a hit with our toddler - she loved seeing the turtle and baby horseshoe crab. We also went on their Dolphin and Nature Boat Tour. The captain, first mate, and docent were incredible! They are all very knowledgeable, kind, and determined to make sure that each person on the tour had a wonderful time. We got great views of dolphins and learned so much.

Very nice place to visit. Museum well done and informative. Came in March, outside would be nicer in warmer weather. Free, but we donated.

so awesome!! visiting this museum was free (but they do accept donations!) and it is a beautiful area to walk around. there is a great butterfly garden that you can walk through, pretty trails, and they even had a little meet-and-greet with some animals (this was $7 a person, but it’s totally optional. i would absolutely recommend, though!!). we got to hold a corn snake, turtles, and baby alligators. the staff was super friendly and nice and i would love to go back.

Shelter Cove Community Park is a popular gathering spot in the city that hosts frequent shows and festivals. In addition to its entertainment value, the park also features green space for sports and fitness activities. The park is well-designed for children to burn off energy, making it an ideal destination for families with young kids. Located in Hilton Head, the park is surrounded by great shopping options including numerous restaurants and small shops.
Shelter cove has some of the best shopping in restaurants hands down. This park was so well designed for the kids. They were able to burn some energy off so they could behave well at the dinner table. We went twice in our week vacation down there in Hilton Head. Highly recommend stopping by here if you have kids. Let them burn some energy off so they don't act up at the store's while shopping lol

Great place to view the Tuesday night fireworks as well as the sunset, just get there early (around 6:30pm) and eat dinner and hangout or else parking can be difficult! The fireworks kicked off around 9:37pm and lasted for a decent amount of time.

Shelter Cove Community Park is a beautiful park located adjacent to the Shelter Cove Towne Centre. It includes a large grassy area for recreation, a stage for concerts, and an area with playground equipment for children. Plus, it has a gorgeous view of the marshland. It's a beautiful place to run and play or simply to sit and relax.

Love this park. It's close the restaurants and shopping and has the Memorial park. It's a great place to watch the sunset and to look at the amazing Memorial built for veterans. You can even purchase a brick for a veteran and they will have there name there for ever. They have done such a good job in building a beautiful park. It's a MUST visit while you're in HHI.

Shelter Cove Community Park is a very well-designed shopping center, community park for the whole family to enjoy. All of the photos were taken on our recent visit at Christmas and the park is just beautiful! The playground is great with rubber mulch and very cushioned for wild kids like mine:). Large grass area to run around or picnic with the family. Hilton Head puts on events there all the time such as movie nights under the stars, snow at the beach, 4th of July celebrations etc. Check with the community calendar to make sure you don't miss out on any of the great events going on there. This is a park we often take people that come to the beach to visit us. They always seem to maintain the park very well and we will continue to go there as it is just a great place to hang out, walk around, shop, eat, date night and of course go and see Santa Clause at Christmas!

Love Shelter Cover Community Park! This is a great place for both locals and tourists alike. Within a quick 5 minute walk in any direction you can find places to eat, places to shop, grocery store, gas station, playground, waterfront, and usually some event going on. This is a wonderful place to watch the sunset. There are walking trails, picnic benches and a nice playground for kids. Lots of children, families, teens and elderly enjoying the evening. Several people were walking their dogs. This location is near the marsh and is very peaceful. We saw lots of water birds flying overhead heading to the rookery for the night.

The best on this side of the island! Free and a playground foe kids with water fountain, restrooms lots of seats and walking for the family. Sunscreens in the bathrooms and lots of cameras around to spy on you! And free wifi however not enough handicap parking.

This is a awesome Greenway that goes put over the edge of the marsh area near shelter cove. There is open parking at the end, and there are two small parks that this takes you to.One is a veterans memorial park with pavers of some veterans of various wars. I am not sure how the featured veterans were chosen, but still a pretty stopThe 2nd park is behind shelter cove shopping center, and has a playground, and gazebo area as well as easy access to shops and restaurants. The whole trail is probably about a mile, but might be a nice excursion if you find yourself in the area

Coligny Beach Park is an oceanfront recreational area featuring well-maintained walking and biking paths, as well as amenities like Wi-Fi, swings, and the option to rent beach equipment. It is a popular destination for families as it is conveniently located near a playground and the Hilton Head Island Children's Museum. Locals also frequent Islanders Beach, where they can enjoy grilling facilities and picnic pavilions in addition to swimming in the Atlantic Ocean.
I live in Atlanta and don’t mind driving here because it’s clean, family-friendly, has free parking, and it really is beautiful. I love this beach! Lovely place to spend the day with my family
Nurse Y — Google review
We visited this place before, but it was too crowded, and parking was difficult, so we ended up going to a different beach. This time, we came back to a beach that’s perfect for enjoying the sunrise. The sandy beach is long and clean. People are walking, running, and dogs are playing in the water. There’s a reason why it’s already busy early in the morning—it’s a beautifully maintained beach and park. The parking lot is across the street and is very spacious. Parking is also free. Though it was a bit far, we were lucky enough to see dolphins. We’ll definitely be going back soon!

FREE PARKING!HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE right down to the ocean! There are mats lining the path that wheelchairs can roll on easily. This place is stunning.Very little shells on the beach. It's nice to see a city put so much into public access. Restrooms, showers, water faucets and more! The water was good and cold from the fountain which is a surprise. The sunrise was pretty even if that one cloud blocked it a little.Plenty of restaurants within walking distance too!
Ray S — Google review
Beautiful and clean beach!!! Restrooms, showers, swings, tables, it's awesome. We also love the beach mat that goes out over the dunes. My husband is an active wheelchair user and is able to push out over the dunes and enjoy the beach as well!

Beautiful beach, easy access and lovely rest area with water spigots to wash off your feet as well as showers to rinse off completely. Could use more parking but there isn't anywhere to add it - plus, it's walkable from many of the condos nearby. The sand was perfect and waterntemp was cold but bearable for an October sunrise.
Patricia B — Google review
Beautiful walkway to the beach. Nice changing area with showers for rinsing off sand. Fun little splash pad for the children to play or “wash” off in. I love that they have created a place to escape the heat with the pavilion and the swings are a great place to just relax and enjoy those sea breezes. They have also created a sand mat that allows for wheelchair access down to the beach. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because the last night we were there, the ladies bathroom was completely trashed. It appeared to have been neglected for a couple of days although I’m pretty sure they check it every night.
Sabrina W — Google review
Beautiful beach. Can get crowded in the summer for sure. These pics were from 7:00 a.m. walking on the beach. Coligny area is a great place for family and fun. Lots to do

Beautiful beach! I love the landscaping, sitting areas with swings & music. We watched the dolphins & birds that were fishing in the ocean... just a gorgeous place to be. Can't wait to visit again.
Jan K — Google review
The atmosphere is pleasant, and the area is well thought out. They have complimentary buggies for use by those who would have difficulty walking to the beach. There are wide mats for walking on to reach the beach. There are swings and benches for resting along the way. At the entrance, a splash area provides a cooling area for children to play. Some areas are covered for shade. Chairs are available at the beach. It is evident that people enjoy being there.
Barbara B — Google review
It's a nice beach area but a lot of small jelly fish everywhere. From what I learned, they don't sting they just get washed up during high tide. The beach was crowded and the people were not very friendly, especially the lifeguards. Of course, there's no place to sit unless you want to pay for it, so bring your own chairs. It's more of an expensive tourist area that people like to go hotels all around you, hence all the people. There is plenty of parking but plan on walking a bit. It's a nice beach, but I don't plan on going back anytime soon. There are some shops and restaurants nearby if you want to shop and eat. There's a nice park area with a big playground and a big field for the kids to play on. There is an area where you can hear music during the summer months.
Ingrid H — Google review
This is a beautiful entrance to the beach. They have swings along the walkway and other seating as well. The walkway to the beach had padding down making it an easier walk. We enjoyed the laid back atmosphere at the beach and the water was nice. I would only recommend they have enclosed showers so that you can have more privacy when cleaning up after your day at the beach. They did however have a splash pad area that helps with the sand.
Caiwenkontay — Google review
The best place to enjoy the beach or see a sunrise! Parking is easy! It’s always clean in the early mornings! Water pad/splash pad is perfect to rinse off before heading back to the car!

This beach has changed a lot over the years. In 2024, it is very very crowded. If you are not wanting to see hundreds of people, you may need to walk about a quarter mile or so to the right of the main Coligny Brach Circle entrance.Just walk until you see no more of those big blue umbrellas and it will feel a bit more organic. You can also arrive early around 7:30 AM or so and it feels a bit more peaceful.(There are other beaches on Hilton Head if you are looking for a public beach that is not such a party spot.)Overall, it’s lovely and fun. The nearby shopping and food selections are in an outstanding location relative to the beach. However, at this point, please know that it is quite crowded.
Kimberly D — Google review
This particular public access to the beach was easy to access. Loved the mesh walk-way over the sand! Also loved the area where we were able to rinse our feet/legs and shoes before getting in our car.
J H — Google review
Public beach parking (free) is conveniently located close by. From the parking area, strategically placed signs guide pedestrians towards the park entrance. There are shops and facilities like restrooms and shower areas. The walkway is flanked by benches and trash and recycling bins. There are cabanas and chairs for rent if you didn't bring your own shade or umbrellas. Come early and beat the crowd.
Sam P — Google review
It’s a beach. But not only is it a beach it’s a clean beach. I like the fact that it was clean and seemed to be well maintained by whoever maintains beaches. We came in town well for beaches. And we was not let down by the beauty of this beach. It had sand and water which was exactly why we stopped here.

This place always has been good. We have been visit this place for more than 8 years and it is always a good experience. Big free public parking, showers, bathroom and a good path to the beach. Relax time always. We highly recommend for, fun, family and a chill place to stay with infrastructure.

We enjoyed walking the different shops around the plaza. There were many to choose from and there is something for everyone (even kids). Be forewarned, don't walk on an empty stomach because the eateries will starve you. There is a pirate ship play area that the kids enjoy. Certain times you'll hear the live music. It was a joy seeing my granddaughter having so much fun (her first beach visit) watching the gulls, jumping the waves as they rolled to shore, and building sand castles. The splash pad they have for the kids and the areas that lead to the beach are nice and well maintained. Restroom are clean. There are beach wheelchairs (should anyone need one) that you call to reserve so that it's easier to get them on the beach. The beach is very clean and there are trash bins to use if needed. If you have never been to HHI, Coligny Beach Park especially, do yourself a favor and make plans to go. Even if it's a day trip. The atmosphere is amazing for relaxing and everyone we met there was so friendly.

GREAT Beach!Parking- Parking is free, however, to park in the lot closest to the beach, you want to get there early. We arrived around 1050a and the lot was full. We were able to park at Circle Center. The walk was no more than 5 minutes.Plenty of signs leading you to the beach.Entrance- There is a splash at the entrance and the men's and women's restrooms. There are also benches and swing seats with plenty of shade. There is a Pavillion to the right with a bar and hot dog stand.Beach- I love that the path leads all the way down to the beach. It made it so much easier to pull our wagon. The beach was smooth and clean. We did notice there weren't any seashells. We went 4th of July weekend, so it was crowded, but we never felt like people were on top of each other. It still felt spacious. There are lifeguards on duty, which is always great. The only negative for me were the bathrooms. Maybe more drains or something to help with the water. The bathroom felt like I was walking through puddles of water and I slipped.Overall, an amazing beach and is not far from Atlanta. We are planning to return again in a couple of weeks!

Visitors can also explore vast areas of untouched nature including rice fields and swamps while observing the local flora and fauna.
If you enjoy beautiful 3-mile nature walks, you will enjoy Sea Pines Forest Preserve. Well-marked trails meander around several lakes in the preserve, allowing for sightings of turtles, alligators, and assorted birds. Boardwalks navigate over former rice fields and swamp land. Horses travel down designated bridal trails and recreational bicyclers enjoy the preserve on wheels. But it's mostly hikers, more during tourist seasons and rather sparse during the cooler fall and winter months. In the middle of the preserve near Lake Joe is Fish Island, a place with a shelter, picnic tables, grills, drinking water, and portable toilets. And at Lake Mary, Fisherman's Point extends to the center of the lake with a fishing deck. The trails are easy, and families with young children can often be seen enjoying nature together. Maps of the preserve may be picked up at the trail's entrance. There is a charge for non-residents to enter Sea Pines, but there are opportunities in Sea Pines for hiking, biking, shopping, golfing, and dining, all in beautiful settings.

Hiked more than 6 miles along the preserve trails, saw multiple small alligators, white egret, green heron, anhinga, armadillo, and turtles. Recommend walking (not driving) to lake Mary since there is no parking to get to the overlooks.

Day pass fee is 9 dollars per car, pretty reasonable I thought. We just did the preserve but there seems to be an entire world back behind that gate! Who knew?? The preserve is very nice, flat trails very well marked. The raised walkways through the swamps are in great shape, we saw tons of Anoles (small lizards), Heron, ducks and other birds and I'm sure in warmer weather there of lots of gators. Great place to walk the dog or kids!

Sea Pines Forest Preserve is a wonderful place to visit if you are a nature-lover. It has a great diversity in flora and includes wildflowers, Spanish Moss usually hanging from Live Oak trees, many pam trees of differing kinds, lush ferns of great density and some epiphytic ones growing on Live Oaks, fauna like wading birds, alligators and turtle, dragonflies, and beautiful trails that can be walked on or ridden on with a bike.
Tanya K — Google review
The trails here are nice and flat and well maintained. Beautiful scenery. You will pay a $9 charge to enter this portion of the island unless you're a resident or renter in Sea Pines. Signs were very helpful when navigating the preserve. Highly recommend.
Lori W — Google review
Nice little trails where we saw a woodpecker up close, turtles, we walked trails to Joe Lake where we saw up close 6 gators from a baby a couple feet long to the biggest being around 8ft or so.Peaceful place to visit.
Mandy S — Google review
Lots of various trails to travel. We got to see a lot of wildlife including some basking alligators. Wild flower fields flourished with all of the beautiful butterflies 🦋 and fishing id permitted here with park permit. A good place to visit with the whole family.

I’m sure it was really lovely but after biking all the way to it I refused to pay on principle to see a free nature preserve. It was a big disappointment and had I been prepared for an entrance fee I might have paid and gone inside, but I had no idea that I was going to get stuck with a cost on arrival. On vacation from Alaska means I won’t get to see one of the few nature related things available.
Kerin F — Google review
Nice place for a relaxing walk. Make sure to get the map at entrance or you will get lost. Watch for gators, there are a few.

Beautiful and quiet place to take a morning run. A great way to see the flora and fauna of the low country.

The area is beautiful. I'm not sure why they charge to drive through there though?! Not much to do but look at homes.

Great place to visit, we even saw a few alligators. Small admission fee of $9 a car. Lots of other things to do in Sea Pines as well.
Dan W — Google review
It's okay. $9 for a day pass to walk around a kind of average state park. Trails are well maintained and grounds are well kept. Saw a few turtles, a couple gators, a snake, and several cranes. But if you expect a lot nature, you should consider driving the 20 minutes to Pinckney National Preserve. I enjoyed it way more and it was free. Just get there early to get parking.

FYI - $9 fee to get into Sea Pines. I’m from out of town and didn’t know this until I arrived at the gate. The forest preserve trails are very well maintained and you’ll hear and see tons of wildlife. There’s a warning sign for alligators but don’t forgot to keep an eye out for snakes too.

The beach is great but take a minute to see the beautiful overgrown canopies in the middle of the island

Numerous trails, wetlands, horse, walking, bike and drive trails. Accessible, quiet, plenty of nature to view & hear. Mindful of several alligators observed during visit. Insect uptick after rains. Visited daily during stay, heard owls in addition to woodpeckers, cardinals and tufted titmouse.
Sharon S — Google review
Nice trails that are marked. There is also a boardwalk. The place is easy to find and plenty of parking as well . To get inside the Sea Pines area, you need a pass that is $9. But you can come and go as many times during that day.

The Tybee Island Light Station and Museum is a noteworthy historical landmark that offers self-guided tours to visitors. The site includes a beautifully preserved lighthouse and an adjacent museum that showcases the rich history of the area. In addition to the lighthouse, there is also nearby Fort Pulaski National Monument, which saw significant action during the Civil War. For those seeking a more relaxing experience, dolphin tours are available as well.
We arrived right at 9am and are so thankful we did! We were able to buy tickets directly on site. Also, parking was free, but you only get 2 hours. 2 hours is plenty of time to see everything on site plus the fort across the street. It was HOT in the lighthouse, which was expected while climbing 178 stairs in the middle of July. Again, makes us thankful we arrived first thing in the morning because I can't imagine going in the middle of the day during the dead heat 🥵 However, the climb is totally worth the view at the top!!We had a 3 year old and 12 year old who also enjoyed everything at the museum & cute gift shop on site.

Do not bring any type of backpack. They will not let you in ,even if it is your handbag. I had to shove my wallet and phone in my shorts as my handbag was considered a backpack and since we came on bikes we had to rent a locker for my handbag. The lighthouse is nice bit we were too tired to go to the battalion fort. We are seniors so admission was $10

Loved visiting this historical site and climbing the lighthouse. The volunteers are very informative. Could to see some great artifacts. There was no wait at all when we went in the morning time. You cannot buy tickets in advance.

I love the lighthouse. It's a pay-to-park city, so make sure to pay to visit and sight see unless you're staying in a motel. It's $4.00 to park but it isn't all day. I would have liked to have spent more time with my family walking the beach though.

Lovely drive from Savannah to Tybee. Worth a visit if in the area. Metered public carpark or 1 hours free if museum is open and you pay for the visit. Once parked short walk to lovely beach for a walk and restaurant and public restaurant. 🚾🚻♿

The ol lady loves checking out lighthouses anytime we are near one. We don’t officially go to the museum because we were honestly looking for beaches to just relax on. But we did ride by and take some pictures. This was a nice lighthouse. The only thing that I felt like didn’t seem right was it wasn’t as close to the beach as what I would see as a typical lighthouse. In my opinion most lighthouses are directly on the beach and not back a block or so. But it was nice scenery for the area and is a great lighthouse to check out.

Such a beautiful island and view. The history lesson was great and I really enjoyed all there was. Staff was great, informative, knowledgeable, and very nice.

The lighthouse and grounds are outstanding with tons of history. The Museum across the street is a hidden gem of history and awesome view from the top. It is well worth the price of admission especially because it supports the restoration efforts.

Great light house lots of room to get up and down. Staff was so friendly. Look forward to seeing it when the remodeling is done.

First time I went I was a child. I've gone twice more since being an adult, and it's always a crowd pleaser and brings back great memories of going there with my family. It's reasonably priced making it affordable for larger groups or families, and there is a lot of history to learn.

I went awhile back. We rented a golf cart and drove it here. There were plenty of parking spots. Admission was $12 for an adult. Your ticket includes both the light station and Battery Garland across the street. The light station has 178 steps and no elevator. However, they do have rest areas. It’s worth a visit to get to the top and look out. Impressive views. Museum was small but it’s still cool to see. When it reopens, I recommend coming in the morning or week days. Only a certain amount of people can go up at a time.

We had a great time here, There was a lot of information to see, very interesting. Beautiful well kept area. I did not climb the stairs to the lighthouse but others in my party did and were very happy with the view.

This was really a neat place to go to. Enjoyed every minute of it. Lots of history to read about and see. They do not allow backpacks or even purses that are backpacks so be prepared. Also bring water in a fanny pack as it infers warm. The houses have air conditioning but the lighthouse doesn’t. Oh and some hands on exhibits as well. I enjoyed the rope tying exhibit too.We also headed across the street the battery Fort Screven and they have a great museum as well. Your ticket is good for both places. Park at the lighthouse museum and take in both places.

The history and beauty of this place is breathtaking... including the views. Unfortunately, it was under renovation when we went and we had to endure construction areas and constant noise. The stairs up (no elevator) are in sets of 25...with a landing between each. Good leg burn! The top is small and not easily walkable with others up there. The signs and history included, along with the other buildings are with the time.

178 steps up to the top of the lighthouse 🤩We were with a group of high school students and took the guided tour throughout the property. It was interesting to learn the history of light houses and Savannah. It was a gorgeous day, too!

The 3 light keepers’ homes and outbuildings were beautifully restored. The former daymark now full lighthouse exterior was getting a touch up too.Park here free. Do not pay to park by the beach. We climbed 178 steps to the top of the 154’ high lighthouse for the gorgeous views over Tybee Island North Beach.

Watched the sunrise..picked up shells. Light wind, water temperature perfect. The sand was clean. No trash. By 9 am the beaches were filling up. No traffic leaving Tybee, but heading into Tybee it was getting thick. Beautiful morning🌄

This is a great place to visit for adults or kids you do have the circular steps to go up if you want to climb up the lighthouse. Every 25 steps there is a landing where you can look out a window and catch your breath if you need to. The views are great the people who helped us and we're working there were really very nice and helpful. With the ticket price you can also see the fort and Battery that is nearby all very interesting informative great historical lesson.

Tybee island Light house, needs to be on your vacation todo list. There is a sweet museum, light keepers house to tour and the 360 degree views from up top are amazing! The stair case is wider than others I have climbed. With purchase of the ticket, you can also explore the bunker across the street.

Monument
Sights & Landmarks
Fort Pulaski National Monument is a significant landmark from the Civil War era that offers ranger-led tours, musket and cannon firing displays, and scenic hiking and biking trails along the riverfront. The fort was built in 1829 and played a prominent role during the war, enduring a 30-hour siege under Robert E. Lee's command by Union forces. Visitors can also explore nearby attractions such as Tybee Island Lighthouse or embark on a dolphin tour for more leisurely sightseeing.
Fort Pulaski is a great National Monument just outside Savannah. It's deserves half a day of attention and exploration. Try timing your visit to a ranger talk to really appreciate the history and engineering of the fort. The inside of the fort is very open. You're able to explore almost every room including the upper ramparts. Outside the fort is a restroom, visitors center, but the gift shop is inside the fort. There are a few trails outside around the fort near the water front that give the park a little added variety. Spend some time here as it's worth your driving!
Michael B — Google review
One of the coolest third system forts to visit! The way the fort has been preserved much in the way it was after the union bombardment was awesome to behold. My wife and I spent the morning here and had a blast learning about the fort! If you come here, make sure to walk around the fort on the outside.
Jesse M — Google review
We were able to get a great deal on our admission price. My mother, who is a senior, bought a National Park Pass for $20, which allows 4 adults to come with her for no additional cost. So, we paid $20 for 5 adults to enter, instead of the $10 each, which would have set us back $50.The fort itself is an incredible opportunity to see an important part of America's history. Be very careful as there is no railing on the top level of the fort. It is a straight drop down, so it probably wouldn't be good for people who have a problem with heights. We really enjoyed our time here and snagged a magnet in the gift shop on the way out.Be aware also that the only bathroom is by the round brick building as you first come in that serves as their Visitor Center.
Suomirakastaa — Google review
What a fantastic place! Plan to spend the day here. Start at the visitors center and then make sure you sit under the oak tree for the history with the ranger. The technology of this fort is really amazing! The trails are also really fun. Make sure you take the trail to the Cockspur Lighthouse and read about its history too. At this park you can get 6 stamps on your park passport here too! Pack a lunch and stay all day. Also don’t forget to bring water, you will need it. The gift shop also sells water if you need it. So much history in this one spot. We spent 6 hours there and didn’t see it all. Great for all ages.
Jenny T — Google review
This National Monument had a bit for all to enjoy. A 15min movie gave a great history lesson. We caught the ranger led tour that was informative and guided us through different areas of the fort. The views can be taken in at all angles. Once you’re done exploring the fort take a stroll down to the Cockspur lighthouse. The trial is flat and very easy to navigate.

I have gone here since I was little and the scenery still amazes me when I see it. The history is also fascinating to sit and listen to with the fantastic tours and rangers that give them. The trails are beautiful and truly a pleasure to go on and see the wildlife and vegetation out there. The wildlife is always a sight to see and it’s usually very present on the island. Make sure to bring water and snacks to beat the heat though, it can be very hot out there. I have also worked here on multiple occasions and I can say that the staff are very friendly and they’re nice people so you can always reach out to the staff for help if you have a problem.

I took my toddler here in March to check this fort out. I have to say I love this one and Old Fort Jackson the most. The history was very interesting and we managed to walk around with a tour guide. If you are able to go with a tour guide it's worth it. Some of the bricks were made in Savannah. Seeing the cannon ball hits on the walls of the fort was neat to see as well. The lawn was fun for my son to run through and have a picnic. It took us about an hour and a half to walk through exploring. We will definitely be back.

Nice place with plenty of trails outside the fort, and inside is pretty interesting, you can get up to the top and walk around the entire perimeter. There are view in every direction. It’s dog friendly too and they had a bowl of water out for the dogs inside the fort.

Very interesting monument! Love all of the trails. We enjoyed the live Canon demonstration. Dogs are allowed on a leash but not inside of the visitors' center. The shore is closed, however the views are amazing.

Great piece of history. Many of us forget what our ancestors endured to fight for what they believed in. This reminds us of the conditions they lived in, the sacrifices they made, and also the dedication and determination that they had.Plan on a few hours here or more if you really love history.Highly recommend either talking to a Ranger and / or attending one of their sessions led by a Ranger or Park volunteer. They give you the fun tidbits not posted on the signs.Keep in mind this is outdoors (other than an indoor video at the Visitor Center), so dress accordingly and bring water (which you can purchase as well).Another bonus is that this place is pet friendly, so if traveling with a fur baby it makes a nice stop.
Jen C — Google review
This is a National Park that I think is worth the visit. There is a lot of colonial and antebellum history in this structure and visitors should really plan for 2 - 3 hours to fully see all the rooms and areas in the fort. It’s a very unique structure with a moat, drawbridge and several underground tunnels and walkways. There are park rangers on site to answer questions and the facility provides a self-guided tour throughout all the rooms. With plenty of displays and placards to read, this is a neat stop and well worth the price of admission.
Jim M — Google review
Very interesting piece of US history, especially after the war of 1812 and the measures the young United States took to safeguard their homeland. The National Monument is very well maintained, interesting to visit and educational - very friendly staff on site! The store is located in the Fort itself, the restrooms are outside the Fort at the Visitors Center. Oh and the Visitor Center was constructed in the same manor as the Fort, it blends right in and shows the dedication the NPS team takes!
Hans-Peter S — Google review
We arrived at the fort on its 100th anniversary birthday. We didn't know it was going on so it was a pleasant surprise and were able to get in for free. They had reenactors and a bunch of other really cool educational features. Because of the anniversary we were able to go into parts of the fort that you normally not allowed to go into. Be sure to wear good shoes. If you're so inclined there is also a hike to a beach area and an Old lighthouse which I believe is still used today. I was unaware that there was a sanctuary for slaves escaping slavery. But here in the deep South this place is a shining example of history and freedom.

Fort with some historical significance in historical Cockspur island but conserved well. Can climb to roof of port and have some good views of landscape and ocean beside Tybee island. Nearby north shore pier is closed for public and there is picking area. There is visitor centre outside and gift shop inside fort.

It was a nice day out for an adventure. It was "only" high 80s, low 90s. But that humidity! Thankfully I remembered water, but not bug spray. There's now a bottle that will permanently live in my car.The Visitors Center display was very informative. The sign with the potential animal sitings had me hopeful for dolphins, but I didn't get close enough to see any. I did see a couple little crabs. No pictures of the first one because it took me a moment to realize it was a crab and not a bad spider. They had six stamps if you have the National Parks Passport, I was able to claim five of them. The fort itself was nice to walk around, there's staircases to the top of it so you can get a great view. Admittedly it's mostly trees and kinda swampy land, but it's still a view. I was impressed by the displays, I think there were more of them here than Fort Sumpter. I loved the 120 year old fig tree and the sign welcoming people to pick the figs. Unfortunately it's the wrong time of year to eat them. There's several short trails to explore, I think the longest was 1.2 miles. I wish the signage for the lighthouse trail was better, having one at the beginning of the Moat Trail would be beneficial so us directionally challenged people would know which way we should go around the fort. Plus the Moat Trail was a questionable "trail", the only way to tell where the trail was is because there's some benches and slightly shorter grass. I did eventually get in the right direction and got a decent view of the Cockspur Island Lighthouse (yup, actual name). I didn't go all the way to the end of the trail because the mosquitoes were merciless, but I did get to see it.Fort Pulaski shares a lot of history with Fort Sumpter, which I visited a few months ago. Despite my problems finding the correct trail, I think I prefer this one because of the trails. Definitely need to remember better shoes, water, and bug spray.

I went to 2 forts in the Savannah area and this was the best one. Definitely worth the $10 entry fee and you can use that to come back anytime within 3 days. Lots of stuff to see.

We stopped in to do a small hike out to the lighthouse. We walked the perimeter of the fort and took the lighthouse trail down. Disappointed that they added a viewing platform about 1/2 mile from the lighthouse so we couldn’t get a closer view. They do have binoculars available on the platform. We were on a time crunch and didn’t have time to enter the fort. Hope to make it back someday and check it out.

It was a great visit. I will admit that I was on a bit of a time rush due to having another event booked later that day but regardless, I got to spend an hour at this unique old fort and I greatly appreciated both the history and the architecture. In case it isn't obvious, the moat was my favorite part.

Was difficult to find and using Google maps wasn't completely helpful. But what a cool area!!! I didn't realize shops were on both sides at first. Was a little tough getting down the stairs so on the way back up we found a set a little less steep. Having a directory would have been helpful. That way we could have seen what was down there, where bathrooms are, etc.Wish we had more time. This is along the river, across from the convention center but on outside of downtown historic area. It's pretty, lots of little shops (loved the candy store, five and dime, and marketplace). 5 and Dime has restrooms. There is a pub type place down there, too. Just a cute area, separate from the stores,.restaurants, etc. In downtown. Cobblestone and treed, very historical looking.

Very peaceful walks. A ton of people but the peace you feel and the view is great of the history. Small shops but bring the thick wallet. So much to see and do.

Spooky place at night. Cobblestone makes for tricky walking so be careful. Leave the heels at home boys and girls. Put on a good pair of boots or sneakers. I promise you'll turn an ankle and/or end up barefoot otherwise. Lots of neat old haunted places through this section of Savannah. Must see at night in my opinion. Stay alert though. It's not terribly dangerous but you can easily find yourself trapped if you take the wrong stairs or wander too far by yourself. You can take your car on River St but I wouldn't do it . In fact avoid your car altogether in Savannah if possible. The city itself is razy confusing. And historically speaking I can only imagine the horror River street had experienced for hundreds of years present day for the most part excluded. If those bricks could talk I don't think I could bare to hear their voice. Chilling to think that you actually might just hear River St talking to you if you're walking along at night. In fact I was certain River Street was speaking but then I realized that it was a homeless guy and he was talking to nobody about "needing his damn sunglasses" . So maybe River Street and this man were having a conversation. Not sure, I did not try to join the back and forth. So keep your heads up at night somehow while also looking at your feet so you don't fall and look like an a$$.

This Savannah restaurant is popular for its romantic setting and gourmet Southern cuisine, served in an elegant 18th-century Colonial mansion. guests can choose to dine in one of the ornate dining rooms or down stairs in the tavern, where live music is provided.
This is a must visit! Our waitress was very personable and knowledgeable about the menu. I loved getting to chat with her! Food was some of the most delicious I’ve ever had, their biscuits are so soft and flavorful. Very creative drink menu with lots of options. She crab soup was delicious and had a hefty portion. Salmon was crispy, and the scallop and shrimp pasta was creamy and flavorful. Very historical house to walk through, patio was also a great place to sit. Highly recommend!

So happy to score a table at the Ole Pink House for Mothers Day. Appetizers were not as good as I anticipated but our entree was beyond fabulous. My husband had the delicious Flounder and I had the pork tenderloin with molasses bourbon sauce and the sweet potatoe and greens were life changing. Shrimp and grits app was okay, definitely have had better. Nice wine selection as well, atmosphere was lovely.

That are crispy and delicious. We ordered the homemade pink lemonade which was light, refreshing and not too sweet. We decided to be adventurous and try the shrimp and grits sushi roll. It did not disappoint, savory and salty it was everything I needed. The strawberry arugula salad was nice and light. We were able to split in two and it was the perfect size.Max's friend chicken comes and half a chicken, but you're able to ask for pieces which is great. I got just the dark meat and it was the best fried chicken I've had in a long time. Perfectly crunchy and moist. The Mac and cheese had a nice oven baked top with a gooey center.

This was my first time eating here. The service was excellent, our server was friendly and helpful in ordering since this was my first time there. Most of the items on the menu I had no clue what they were.😄 So I had a spicy margarita which was like any I ever had because it had jalapeno peppers in it which gave it quite a kick. I ordered fried green tomatoes with apple wood smoked bacon and pulled pork sliders appetizers which came with biscuits and then BLT salad because I wasn't too hungry and I wanted to try the chocolate pecan pie with ice cream on top which I must say was delicious. Also My wife and I were celebrating our 45 anniversary. 🤎🤎🤎🤎 Thanks for helping to make this a special night.🫶🏾

The Olde Pink House is an okay experience if you've never been before. It's a great historic site in Savannah. The biscuits are must and are provided when you dine. We asked for another helping. The couple sitting next to us gave us some honey 🐝 to try with our biscuits and it was amazing. We tried the fried flounder and fried green tomatoes. The fried green tomatoes were exceptional. The sauce on top of the flounder made the dish. I liked it, but my husband thought it was too sweet. The flounder was also only seasoned on one side. The grits were okay, but we did like the butter beans and collards. The service was okay. Our waitress was nice but seemed like she was just trying to do her job and turn the tables. When we first walked in a gentleman stated they'd been there ten minutes and hadn't even received water. All in all it’s a good atmosphere and glad to say I went.

Our late lunch we had yesterday was beyond delicious! We had the blue crab beignets (out of this world and generously proportioned), the best she-crab soup I’ve ever had and the crispy fried flounder which was perfectly cooked and accompanied by some yummy apricot sauce. The jalapeño margaritas were, again, the best I’ve ever had. We can’t say enough good things about our experience there. The service by Miriam and Whitney was outstanding - they were professional, friendly, helpful and just wonderful. And shout out to management for not over crowding the tables. The atmosphere is relaxed and enjoyable. We will definitely be back!

Shoutout to our server Billy, he was extremely knowledgeable about the menu/specials and very professional! We also appreciated manager Winston stopping by to check in on us and really having a nice, personable chat. The olde pink house is extremely historic, which many of the servers are happy to fill you in on, Billy gave us a mini run down of the upstairs. Dinner in all is pricey but for our anniversary dinner it was well worth it. We dined upstairs but be sure to check out the taproom/basement! Great food and drinks!

It lives up to all the reviews!!I was curious if this place was overrated and a tourist trap. It lives up to its reputation. We were lucky to snag the last reservation at 8:30. You will need a reservation. We went a little early to enjoy a glass of wine before dinner at their bar. We were treated spectacular. We were escorted to the bar and greeted by a host downstairs at the bar. We got to sit in front of the fireplace and piano. They had a live piano player during our visit. We were then sat in the dining area off to the left. The decor was stunning and brings old world charm. We had superb service and the food was delicious. This is quaint romantic place to eat. We will be back on our next visit to the city.

We happened to come across this restaurant and was lucky enough to get a reservation super late in the day. Little did we know there's a while history with this building and restaurant that makes it that much more interesting and fascinating to visit and eat at. The food was absolutely phenomenal, and the service was second to none! Our waiter, Eric, was extremely attentive, always ensured we were okay and well taken care of the whole night. He was able to talk through any items on the menu, the history of the restaurant, and pretty much anything else you can think about! I've genuinely never had a waiter that was so knowledgeable, down to earth and such a joy to talk with (there are times you sort of want the waiter to stop talking, but I never felt that with Eric!) He does an absolutely tremendous job, I overheard everyone that left the restaurant only singing praises for Eric and so did I! He made the night such a memorable and enjoyable one. The appetizer and dinner were amazing. The dessert was equally as good, but service like this is extremely hard to come by (and it wasn't JUST Eric l, EVERYONE was so kind and welcoming), which made the whole experience and dinner out of this world. You're not going to go wrong with any of the options for food. It's just an impossibility here. Nothing we had was short of delicious, from the complimentary biscuits to the fried chicken and pork tenderloin to Sorbet and Praline Basket. It was all just bang on wonderful. It has phenomenal ratings for a reason, and you'll see that when you come for yourself! Additionally, the staff welcomes all the guests to explore the mansion and see all the various areas of the house; the elegant rooms and all the creepy ones too! All in all, whenever I'm in town, I will 110% always be visiting The Olde Pink House no matter what, without fail from now on, it will be a To-Do. Every. Single. Time.

Our favorite spot in Savannah by far!! The house is incredible and full of history. The server was very nice and knowledgeable. From start to finish, our meal was amazing! From the signature drink, crab beignets, BLT salad, crab cakes, Macs Chicken, and pecan pie and pralines basket were all divine! I can’t forget the amazing pimento cheese sticks we had to start. If you have not been go! If you planning a trip, get a a reservation…. You will not be disappointed!!!!

Amazing historical home. The menu was full of delightful dishes. We enjoyed the cornbread oyster appetizer to start our meal. The flounder and stuffed grouper were delicious. Food was food and well presented. All the staff were exceptional. Make reservations and enjoy the beautiful home.

My wife and I enjoyed a delicious late lunch. There were no reservation times available when we checked earlier in the week so we visited to find out if there were any cancellations available. The staff actually was able to seat us immediately. We ordered shrimp and grits and the fried shrimp lunch plate. They were delicious! We also enjoyed a Pink Lady and their signature Mule cocktail. We loved both.

We had our rehearsal dinner in the Study this past weekend and it was beautiful. The staff were also amazing to work with. It was right after a tropical storm. Despite them being low staffed, they kept the restaurant open for us and made our night super special. The servers were so nice and our guests were so impressed with the food. I highly recommend their shrimp and grits!

Was able to celebrate my Mother's birthday at the Olde Pink House for dinner. It was a lovely experience! What a beautiful mansion to be able to enjoy dinner in. Service was wonderful and the food is delightful. We splurged on a piece of pecan pie. Great portion sizes and focus on Southern options and local caught seafood.

The food was pretty good. Nothing amazing, but the ambiance was amazing. Such a cool place. Must do at least once! The dining area above is a totally different experience to the basement. (They also have live music at night in the basement). It is better to make reservations ahead of time

We recently celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary in Savannah. For dinner, we scheduled a reservation at The Olde Pink House. The experience, food, and staff were amazing. We were greeted by a friendly and helpful hostess. There was staff everywhere to help at every turn. We were escorted up a lovely stairway to the second floor, and sat in a quaint room by a window. There were lit candles on all the tables and the ambiance was romantic. The food timing for appetizers and meals were planned perfectly. Our server, Maggie, did an amazing job and provided the right amount of attention. I could go on and on about how lovely this place is and all the amazing food and staff they have. We even went back for a second time before our vacation ended. If we are ever in Savannah again, we will make a visit to The Olde Pink House.

We went for the first time 8/4/24 and will definitely return. The food was excellent. We had the fried green tomatoes, braised pork shank and fried lobster tails. The service was amazing- shout out to our server Kristen and her trainee Isaac. The house itself is stunning with the rooms each being separate dining areas creating a cozy and intimate experience.

Got there when they opened at 5, no reservation and was able to sit at the bar for dinner. Casey the bartender was excellent, gave great recommendations and service. The drinks are delicious and food even better! Got the pulled pork sandwiches, cheese plate, greens salad and mushroom sweet potato ravioli. Each item was lovely and was just the right amount of food, not too little or too much. The ambiance is welcoming, well decorated in the southern colonial style that fits perfect within the city. I would love to go back again and sit in the main dining area and try other dishes line the pork recommended.

The City Market in Savannah, GA is a four-block open-air market that has been in operation since the 1700s. The market houses retail stores, restaurants, and art galleries within restored warehouses, making it a popular destination for locals and tourists alike.
Savannah trip for you was real fun. The City Market is one of the buzzing places over the weekend (empty weekdays). There are pizza joints, ice-cream shops, restaurants etc.The underground and rooftop bars are the highlight. You can hop around from one to another. Each has a unique vibe and ambience.

I could spend all day here or a few hours and still accomplish the same goal. It’s in and out for me but people who love to make it a whole day to go shopping can spend literally all day and not get bored. Museums, Galleries, Shops, and restaurants on the same street.

Pretty. Lots of stores with all kinds of niches. Public restrooms were out of order but other locations were accommodating. Not enough time in the day to see everything. It was wonderful.

Great outdoor market where the food and entertainment options are a plenty, the buildings are cute and the fun isn't limited to just the day. Evening bars and nightlife is active and welcoming. This market doesn't feel like it's built just fir tourists to come spend money, but like even the local community enjoys it as well. It was a nice change of pace from other markets. It could use easier to find bathrooms though!

Wide variety of restaurants, bars, and stores. Has a park to relax and enjoy the scenery and different people. Visited by a lot college kids looking to unwind and be like college kids. Also a good place to meet up with people since its popular and well-known. On the downside there are a few homeless people that tend to gather there but pretty much stick to themselves.

This area is wonderful. There is a lot to do. The restaurants are great. We ate at the new Irish pub, the food was great and the service outstanding. We also come here when we are in Savannah.
Lisa G — Google review
City market is an area not one individual business. It's lined with shops and eateries and also serves as a center point o Savannah for both locals and tourists alike. It is currently undergoing a social and physical transformation as town is trying to wean the area of its bottle, literally. A concerted effort is being made to change the image of the area being known for drunkeness and debauchery. So it's a bit more tame than in years past. I am sympathetic, but I feel as a reviewer I should let you that historicly that the surrounding areas are gathering spots for the homeless. No encampments or such but I find it difficult to get though the area without being approached for money or some scheme...I still love Savannah, but I'm sure some with different comfort levels might not think so.

Visited multiple shops across the area and wasn't blown away by the shops by any means. I was more displeased with the fact no where within a 2-mile radius there was a public use bathroom from any shop or public works facility. For well hydrated individuals and those in need of a bathroom trip, be prepared to purchase items to use the bathroom.

The Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist is a neo-gothic Catholic church with elaborate stained glass windows, and music recitals are often held there. It was almost entirely destroyed by a fire in 1898, but was rebuilt the next year and restored to its former glory.
Stunning architecture in the middle of Historic Savannah. Well-kept grounds and interior pristine. One of the beautiful places to visit that should be added to your list.

Awe inspiring. Majestic exterior that opens into a world of peace. You don't need to be religious to get a peaceful, take it all in feeling when entering the Basilica. It's a must go when visiting Savannah. Reflect on your day in this beautiful space.

There are no words good enough to describe this experience... a must see to know!! The outside is spectacular, but the inside is miraculous! Your mere presence is altered by the surroundings as you sit in reverence!!!

Magnificent place beautifully decorated inside and outside. A lot of history in it and meticulous work of artists. Very often it’s closed for touring due to active service or wedding. The story of Jesus Christ is told by sculptures along the side walls. There is a mix of different art and designs but all is combined very well and supports each other. We did not use guided tour, but it was still very interesting to walk along the walls and read and look at everything.

Absolutely Breathtaking.Eye candy for the soul.No matter what religion you are, the beauty inside is undeniable, the energy is peaceful and employees are knowledgeable and willing to share.Definitely take the opportunity to venture inside if they have the doors open.I've been there 3 times to view and appreciate the outside, but this time was the first time I was able to enter. It was worth every moment spent there. It is free, but there is a sign asking for donations.

The cathedral is beautiful from the outside. It is very well preserved and maintained. The dual steeples can be seen from most of Savannah! The interior is breathtaking!! We felt a sense of holiness! The magnificent 66 foot tall ceilings, the stained glass, the carvings, statues, chandeliers and so much more make this a must experience when visiting Savannah!

Majestic and worth the visit. The cathedral is a self guided tour and free to visit. Keep in mind people are praying at all times so quiet children are a must.We were greeted by a woman who explained some of the sculptures and she handed us a brochure. They also have postcards for $1, a $3 donation is welcome for a tour.Double check the hour between services before you go that way.

It was hard to capture how beautiful this church is. We just don't have historical places like this on the West Coast, so I was in awe. I grew up Catholic, so it brought back comforting memories. I lit a candle and sat in the wood pew to take in the sights, smells, and the beautiful colors of the stained glass with the sun shining through them. I love how they allow the public to come into the church to look around during times when they aren't having mass.

Went to the 10am Mass on Sunday morning as I was visiting Savannah. It's an absolutely beautiful church, and Mass was fairly packed!A note on parking: there isn't a designated parking lot and it's all street parking. Beautiful place. They have a person explaining when it was built and the history of the Basillica. The stain glass is amazing and the woodwork also. Sights & Landmarks
The Savannah Historic District is an area of the city of Savannah that was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1966. It is one of the largest urban historic districts in the United States, and it contains a wide variety of architecture from the 18th century through to the early 20th century.
I visited the Savannah Historic District last summer and had a wonderful time! It is such a beautiful area with a plethora of options for food, shopping, and entertainment. Many of the roads or paths I encountered were brick or cobblestone, which are beautiful but can pose issue to those who use wheelchairs or a blind person using a cane. Overall though, the brick walkways were very well kept and didn't seem to pose much of a risk at the time of my visit and there was not a lot of cobblestone. The main roads are paved. There is an area by the riverfront that utilizes a fair amount of stairs spread out, so if someone is in a wheelchair there will need to be a bit of a re-route to get to that specific area of the riverfront. It is a very lively and fun area with a lot of music and lights which is very fun, but if you are someone who struggles with sound sensitivity I would suggest bringing earplugs or your choice of aid to help damped that. Overall, a beautiful, must see area in my opinion, and has few inaccessible areas from my point of view in my visit.

Must go back again. This was my third visit and I still feel I have do much to explore and do. We took a riding tour and it was fantastic (as long as you like history) and allows you to get on and off. Great places to eat. The historic district isn't that large and can be walked, if you're young enough. Eye opening history here.

Overall it is entertaining and worth the trip to see the Savannah Historical District. That being said it wasn't mind blowing. Was disappointed in some of the local areas such as the Colonial Park Cemetary which is considered "one of the most beautiful in America," yet was as bland as I could never imagine. Look around and you will find a large number of photo worthy areas that give you an idea of what the south was like a 125 years ago. Worth the overnight stay but not worth more than that.

Savannah's spirit is delightful. In each square and around every corner there is a unique experience. Take a quick glance at the city plan then just walk and explore N-S along Bull street and E-W on River Street, Broughton, Oglethorpe, .... all the way to Forsyth Park. The city is dotted with attractions ranging from historic jems to contemporary art galleries and inspiring architectural renovations. Savannah offers a first class experiences in all seasons, no need to wait for popular events or festivities. Just stop by for a day or a few and enjoy hospitality in this energetic southern bell.

We were passing through and always wanted to visit Savannah, GA. We took a guided trolley ride (90-minutes) through the historical downtown on the Orange trolley (sorry forgot the name). Our driver was Justice and she was great. Not only a safe driver, but a fun and knowledgeable tour guide. A must do is to eat at Paullia Dean's restaurant "The Lady & Sons". This restaurant is truly amazing as are their garlic biscuits. I can't get over how good the biscuits were. I had the Chicken and Dumplings and it was amazing!!! The lemonade is also delicious and sweet on a hot day. Lots to see here. We only had about 4 hours so make the most of your time. We recommend the trolley tour to get s lay of the land and sites you want to visit. The trolley stops by each stop every 15-20 minutes and this is the best way to get around town. Parking is expensive down town, but the Orange trolley will let you park in their lot for free if you purchase tickets for the tour. The tours end at 5 p.m.

This was my first visit to historic Savannah. I only stayed two days, but I had a good time. I used a company called Kelly Tours to get an overview of Savannah. They take everyone through a 90-minute tour first. We had an excellent guide. Then you pick where you want to next. For example, you could call and say I'm at stop 9, I would like to go to stop 5. I called them three times. Each time, it took less than 5 minutes for them to get to me. Some stops were about a 10 minute walk, the weather was nice so I walked some. I feel like I saved so much time, and I saw everything that I wanted to see. I didn't get a lot of good pictures because there are lots of trees and greenspace.

Took my son to play on the playground on a Thursday. There are two playgrounds I found out. Some of the equipment is metal so be careful with the sun heating it up during the day. The equipment was in good shape. There are benches to sit at at the playgrounds. We enjoyed walking to the fountain. It was cool to see some local artists selling their artwork or jewelry along the paths. The restrooms are by the restaurant and it was clean when I used it. There is a fun little hidey garden near the smaller playground with roses and benches. The flowers were in bloom and so beautiful. We did get a parking spot by the tennis courts which is free.

It's a great park for spending a couple of hours playing with the family. There was playground equipment, a splash pad area, a restaurant, basketball courts, and a large grassy area for picnics or playing, not to mention the fountain and historical monuments. Bikes have to dismount through the main park area, so there's no worries about getting run over by a bicyclist while you are wandering through or taking pictures. The flowers and trees are gorgeous. My only complaint is the bathrooms are difficult to find, not the cleanest, and not kept up. Every stall was completely out of toilet paper.

This place is breathtaking. It feels alive. You can feel the history here. Felt safe the whole time. Slight difficulty finding a parking spot, but it is worth the challenge.

Gorgeous park. Lovely to walk around. We visited right after Hurricane Helene and the city did have tree damage scattered throughout. The fountain is very cool! This is definitely a must see when in Savannah.
Brook S — Google review
A must see- nice area, rented scooters and scooted to the fountain from our hotel. The trip there took us through all the squares, and the fountain was really pretty.
Molly Z — Google review
3.5 is probably a more accurate rating… the homeless people (who cussed us out for sitting on the bench) sure put a damper on the visit! The park is super pretty, the tree cover over the sidewall makes it a great place to walk, and the water features were nice for the kids to play in.But, really… who wants to hang out with angry homeless people 🤷🏽♂️

Beautiful big trees around and peaceful park to rest, meditate, walk and also play. There are 2 kids park within the park. The Fountain in the center is very beautiful. Must go there and spend some Time.

This is a great park to stroll if you are visiting Savannah, big trees, fountain, large lawn to play, relax, walk, exercise, it has kids play area, stage etc. There is a restaurant, well maintained park and trails. When we visited, there were people selling their art inside this park on a trail. Restrooms were clean and were pretty busy on weekend. Paid parking around is available, sometimes on a walking distance.

Beautiful park and trees. Public bathrooms. Two playgrounds. Lots of grassy area for sitting and playing. There is a restaurant on site that we did not use. The fountain is gorgeous.

It is a beautiful historic park in the city's historic district. I love how the town maintains its beauty, especially its well-kept boardwalks and the water fountain in the park's center, which exudes classic elegance. This is an excellent place for locals and tourists to walk, jog, or relax.

Obviously, it is gorgeous. Cannot go wrong taking the time to stroll through this beautiful park. I will miss all of Savannah's squares when I return home. The Farmers Market on Saturday was great also, with many vendors.

This park is a MUST VISIT for any tourist visiting the area. Beautiful park with a spectacular fountain surrounded by large trees.

There is an ice cream shop (Doki Doki) and bathrooms (ADA) next to the playground. The Collins Quarter is open for lunch and also adjacent to the playground. Tons of green space, benches, a private garden, and a water feature. Mind the pedestrian zones if you're riding through the park. There is an interactive xylophone located near the playground. Monument for Major General Lafayette McLaws from the Confederate Army and Francis S. Bartow, Colonel 8th Rect. Georgia Volunteers. Tennis and basketball courts. Free parking

For the tourists and locals - Depending on the time you are visiting, you will see different scenery. Don’t just pay attention to the famous fountain, look up to find the hawk (it likes to sit on the big branch higher than the lamppost height), owl (I haven’t found it yet 😅 but my friends seen a pair). The photo and video were taken in early Spring 2024. Eat the local honey (this year’s) if you are allergic to the pollen; I take it before and after visiting the park. Most of the locals chillax on the grass. I love the varieties of dogs in this park. If you want to experience some local creativity and what’s in the vicinity, visit on the weekends. There’s farmer markets, local and aspiring artists, for your stomach and 👀 . Oh yes, some musicians serenading 🎶🎺too. Parking can be challenging during peak hours and on the weekends after 9 a.m. Wear comfortable shoes. Bring water to hydrate. Use discernment when walking in the park. And 📸 ready!Stroll, don’t rush in the park, to enjoy the creations around you 😉. Many of the trees, plants, bushes were planted centuries ago for our enjoyment. To remind us we are a big family. Bonus: there are many beautiful historical homes of different styles around the (N, NE) park, which I absolutely love 😍. Check them out if you love architecture details and history.

The state park Fort McAllister State Park is a Civil War fort with museum and special programs as well as recreation and camping areas. The site also includes barracks, cannons, a hot shot furnace, bulletproof barracks, and a Civil War Museum.
They have a good museum and gift shop. I was super impressed by the movie and was so happy to see they were pet friendly. They had a watering fountain out front for the pooches, and a great walking trail through the earthen forts. There were big guns on site and reenactors to give the history tour. If you go, take some bug spray and some sunscreen because there's a lot to see outside! Also, they have very clean restrooms and cool water fountains in the breezeway.
Veronica C — Google review
Our camping experience at Fort McAllister was just days after Hurricane Helene, and it was spectacular! They were working hard to clear the debris. We were grateful they had power and some sites were open. We had dinner at Fish Tails three times. It's perfect because it's so near the park!

Fantastic fort to check out. The staff was extremely knowledgeable about the area! I loved learning about how they prepared the canons and you must get a guided tour, the self guided tour would be fine but the staff have extra knowledge on the topic! Don't forget to checkout the museum inside and the gift shop!

We tent camped 3 nights in September at Fort McAllister and absolutely loved every minute! The park and campground are beautiful and well maintained with plenty of shade. It was low 90s, but we were comfortable in the abundant shade (we are from south Georgia, so used to the heat). The campsites are spacious and not too close to your neighbors. The bathhouse was EXCEPTIONALLY clean and meticulously maintained by the friendly and helpful camp host John Austin. I really appreciate his efforts! He clearly goes above and beyond his duties. Our favorite part of the campground was all the animals just walking around doing their thing. They would walk right thru our site. Very entertaining! Do beware, though, and keep all food put away securely. The raccoons are very clever little guys and will steal anything left unattended!I would recommend that the lights on the bathhouse be less bright (maybe warm vs cool lights). They lit up our tent even though we were pretty far from it and affected the star gazing.I also loved that I could lay in my bed and watch the sunrise. The good Lord willing, we'll be back!

Beautiful park to walk around in and enjoy. If your from a cooler area of the country like myself try to go on a less humid day. You do have to pay to get in, but it’s not much and it goes to maintaining the grounds. The Spanish moss over the trees is beautiful as well as the trails and museum which was small but nice

Stayed at the campground and it was beautiful. The wildlife is abundant and the does are some of the most level we've encountered. (We're full time in our RV, so we've seen a lot!) The Fort museum is very interesting and worth the $10 admission. The rangers and camp hosts were very friendly as well. We will definitely be returning.
J D — Google review
We camped here for a week in our RV during the slow season in January. The park was mostly empty. It is a beautiful park. Every day we saw deer, racoons, opossums, squirrels, armadillos, and numerous types of birds. They were doing artillery exercises at a nearby military base, so there were thundering booms day and night for multiple days. We will definitely be back.
Alan S — Google review
We stayed at Fort McAllister for 10 days. It is a well-kept, hidden and remote gem with everything we needed. We wanted history, remote location, restrooms, washing machines ,safe location, great hiking trails, proximity to stores within 10 miles...and Fort McAllister fit the bill. The rangers are friendly, and helpful. I would recommend anyone going to Savannah or Georgia check this park out...you will be glad you did!

We were here when hurricane was coming, they issued a mandatory evacuation & refunded our days left! Indiana will not do this! So nice

Smaller campground that is nice and peaceful. Daily visits from deer and at night you’ll possibly see a raccoon and armadillo. Within driving distance to Savanna. Staff is helpful and friendly every time.

What a neat place to spend a day, with a nicely done museum and Visitors Center. The fort is well maintained with wonderful views of the Okeechobee River.
Edward F — Google review
The park is beautiful and there’s an abundance of wildlife here. Deer are spotted regularly! The sites are very level and spacious. I’m on spot 12 which is a premium site that has 50 amp service and sewer connections. The layout isn’t great to me on this site. I would need 40’-50’ of water and sewer hose or park on the bend in the space. Great tv antenna reception. Good cell signal. The park rangers and office personnel are awesome!! There was a problem with my site not being vacated on time, and they were very accommodating. It took a while to clear the site and they were waiting on me to become upset about it. It wasn’t optimal, but it also wasn’t their fault. They did all they could in my opinion and I thank them for their hospitality! Definitely would recommend to anyone that enjoys state parks! Didn’t use the bathhouse and there is no playground in the actual campground area. There is a very nice playground at the day use area and another in the cottage area. They’re a little ways from the campground though.

Great History, interesting earthen fort that defended the approach to Savannah. Fort Clinch never saw battle, but McAllister had 4000 Union troops knocking on the door.
Will S — Google review
Great park for RVs and for tent camping. Also has quite a few extremely nice cottages you can rent. Has a good boat ramp and dock as well. The fort itself is an impactful piece of history to learn about. We have thoroughly enjoyed our time here.
Wade T — Google review
Came across this small fort about 20 years ago. They have really built up the "tourist" value. They have built some of the buildings that were present back in the time of the fort's occupation. It is large enough to be worth the admission, but small enough to be seen by those who might not be able to walk a long distance. Love visiting this fort and will come back on our next visit to Savannah. I recommend visiting. Great for kids, too. My 6 year granddaughter was not bored.

This was a surprising park! Set way back from the hub of the museum. Through a locked gate, down a long paved road, are campsites in a nice shaded area. Some full hook- ups, most water & electric. Driving through, you will find nice large rental cabins and a playground! Lots of wildlife. Beautiful area! Quiet.

Military Museums
Museum focused on the history of Fort Stewart, with guns, uniforms & other artifacts on display.
Only went into the gift shop since the PX only souvenirs pertaining to Savannah. However just at a glancing pass, the facility looked very clean, we did see basically a history of all the Army uniforms. The gift shop has a lot of neat little souvenirs. My favorite being the GA shaped cutting board. Staff is very friendly, & price point for souvenirs are very reasonable az far as standard gift shop prices go.

This is a hidden gem! The quality of the exhibits is fantastic! I'm surprised it's not busier. People must not know about this museum. I will recommend it to anyone who has a interest in the military and the wars we have fought in.They also have a great presentation and ballroom for events. Very professional! Truly enjoyed the visit!

Great museum covering the history of the the 3rd infantry division. Plan on a couple hours to work through from WWI up to the war on terrorism. Some displays are really sad as they contain the uniform, firearm, and spent casings of great American soldiers who died in the line of duty trying to save other members of their unit.
Erik B — Google review
Worth the Effort.Yes - the museum is on base, but access is not an issue. And the Base Visitor's Center team is BY FAR the most helpful group I've ever dealt with when gaining access to an installation. Now for the museum... GREAT experience and quite a bit packed into a smaller building.Make a visit part of your travel plan.

This museum is just fine. It’s honestly very small and there’s not really a whole lot to it. The exhibits they do have are alright, the information is interesting and the facility is clean. Staff if friendly but was hoping for a bit more. Good way to kill an hour if you’re bored and never been. No need to go here more than once.

This local store is a great stop. As other reviews mentioned, the staff is helpful, friendly and pleasant. Some of our favorite items were the pecan pie, chocolate fudge, peach cobbler and the peach muffin mix (it comes in an adorable peach bag with instructions, perfect for a gift). We also got the fresh unsweetened tea and a bag of chocolate covered pecans. The free samples are a wonderful idea, you can find samples for almost all their top seller items. Trying the different samples allowed us to pick out favorites and pick some extra gifts for our friends. Some other items include salsas, jams, preserves, vinaigrettes, pickled fruits and vegetables, different nuts, lots of candies and snacks as well as drinks. For their daily fresh items they have bread, tea, juice and many other baked goods.

Great place if you love peaches they have everything peaches. The woman at the register guided us towards better deals with spending 2 buck more. we got double the peach cider, and she helped us with free samples and made the total experience better. When we were checking out with the peaches, they double-checked the peaches for us to make sure we had good quality. It is truly a great place to visit.

All peach everything! Peach cider, peach jam, butter, cobbler, lemonade, slushee, ice cream...The girls are super friendly and helpful! There are so many things you can try! The fresh peaches are what we stopped for but got more stuff. Definitely try the cider and the peach pecan butter. The prices are a little steep but they are a peach reseller, so... Would recommend!

This place was so cute and I’m glad that I stopped here on my trip! I wanted to try Georgia peach and there were tons of peach things in the store that you could buy! I got a peach lemonade and it was delicious! I also got peach salsa that was good too! There were also really good samples that they had out for you to try! I love how this store is organized and would recommend coming here if you ever pass by! Especially when it’s Georgia peach season so you can pick up some Georgia peaches too!

I used to look forward to stop by this entertaining and delectable shop in Georgia on my way to Florida from NY. Vice versa at exit 58 in Georgia. This shop offers local produces, fruits and specialty beverages of all sorts. My favorite was peach slush and this drink wakes me up to resume driving along the I-95.However, recent inflation did not spare this precious shop. Some items became no longer affordable and some items became outright touristy expensive. One bucket of peach can cost you $30-$35.Of course I will still patronize this little gem during my trip along the I-95 because there’s no better alternative, but I will wait further to resume my spending spree here.

Stopped here on the way home to Pennsylvania from Florida, and couldn't wait to buy some peach related items. Cute little store with amazing peach lemonade (i highly recommend) they have samples before you even buy and they offered us a sample cup of peach slushie. Sooo good.

David is great. Very suggestive, friendly service. You can sample stuff, which is helpful. My favorites are Ghost Pickles and Georgia Sweet Heat Pecans
Mie C — Google review
So happy with the shipping! Everything was wrapped and packed so everything was intact! The peach butter was so good it caught me by surprise it was so sweet. The sweet heat pecans were surprisingly hot and the pecan was soft enough to chew and then the sweet it was a nice balance. The glazed pecans were an everybody favorite! So sweet and not to hard like others I’ve tried. The peach syrup was so good I had it on pancakes, waffles and French toast! Omg the pecan coffe aroma alone was enough to die for. Balanced flavor not bitter like most dark roasts. The peach salsa is the only thing I genuinely didn’t know what to do with I tried it and it’s good but I have no idea what to do with it…ice cream topper? Idk they should do recipe cards to give ideas on how to try the non mainstream stuff. Amazing experience so much more to try!

Really love this Cracker Barrel! Staff, there is so sweet and kind total persona of Southern hospitality! Our food was warm. It was good and best of all it was pancakes not just flapjacks like a lot of other stores will offer you.The shop had something for everybody, but our best experience was our encounter with our waitress/server .She was exceptional. She was right there. She knew when to come back like on point I have to come back and drive you nuts and not to have you look for her, but she was on top of it and she was so very personable and sweet, but not so bad that it gave you a sore tooth just like family that cares about you. !!Thank you, Riley you are the best !

The staff and manager were all extremely polite and kind and knowledgeable. The AC in the museum was a welcome reprieve while we learned about the local history. There was an ammunition demonstration in the fort that taught us about the customs in the first half of the 1700s. The fort is a good replica and has amazing views at sun set.

Fun historical side trip. Excellent little museum with hands-on exhibits and informative video. Buildings (recreated) give a good idea of what life would have been like there.Compact site with friendly staff. Not really wheelchair accessible but easy to walk on the paths and in the buildings. Can get very hot 🥵. Luckily it was not buggy when we visited.

A wonderful fort in Darien, Ga area. The First English fort on Georgia’s CoastFort King George is a historical site located in Darien, Georgia. It is a must-visit destination for history buffs. The fort was built in the 1720s by the British as a defense against the Spanish. Today, visitors can explore the reconstructed fort, which includes barracks, officers' quarters, and a guardhouse, among other buildings. The site is arrived at by driving through a neighborhood. There is limited parking at the location with a parking lot with only about 5 spots. You enter through the visitor’s center. This is one of the highlights of a visit to Fort King George. It allows you the opportunity to learn about the history of the site through guided tours and interactive exhibits. Visitors can learn about the daily life of soldiers at the fort, the struggles between the British and Spanish in the region, and the impact that the fort had on the local Native American population. They had a movie that was on a loop but we did not see it as we wanted to visit the siteThe natural surroundings of Fort King George are also worth exploring. The site is situated on a bluff overlooking the Altamaha River, providing stunning views of the water and the surrounding marshes. Visitors can take a walk on the nature trail, which winds through the forest and along the river, providing an opportunity to see the local flora and fauna. The really neat part of this site is that you can actually enter the various structures to see how the people of the time lived. One of the entrances to the fort was closed but you could still get there by using the other entrances.Overall, Fort King George is a fascinating destination for anyone interested in history and nature. The site is well-preserved and offers a wealth of information about the early days of European settlement in the region. The guided tours and exhibits are engaging and informative, and the natural surroundings are beautiful and serene.

Loved the Halloween scavenger hunt! Laid back and friendly with great staff. Wonderful way to let kids explore history with a bit of excitement. It is an interesting site and everyone enjoyed it – ages 8 to 78! One concern – electrical wheelchairs, or scooters may do well but we had trouble with a manual wheelchair. Some of the gravel paths turn to sand for a few feet and the wheelchair would get stuck. Luckily, our family member was able to stand up and walk a few feet so that we could get the wheelchair back on a firm path when this happened. But someone who is completely disabled may have trouble getting to the fort and other areas outdoors. I’m also not certain a scooter would be able to navigate one of the turns to get to the fort. It’s a bit tight.

A great fort with a very interesting and informative museum and a nice video. The fort itself was much more impressive and larger than some others in the area. The views of the river and Live Oaks with Spanish Moss were gorgeous. The rangers were knowledgeable and friendly. The entry fee was very reasonable and the place was quite clean. My husband, doggies and I, thoroughly enjoyed our time here and would highly recommend visiting.

Fun experience for the family. We got there not long after they opened and we were the only ones there. We were able to walk around and visit all the buildings. I suggest walking down to the small dock. BRING BUG SPRAY. I cannot suggest that enough.

We have visited different forts in different places, and this one is, without a doubt, completely different from all of them, being made of wood.A good explanatory video, in the room next to the museum, will explain the history of this interesting fort. There is a walking path, picnic tables, restrooms, and the park ranger is very friendly.Very important to keep in mind, mosquitoes, which are not mosquitoes, are horseflies and their bite can be really annoying, so if you go with your youngest children, better put clothes on them, because not even the repellent works with those flies.

An amazing fort tucked away behind the town. No one was there when we visited and lots of information signs on site. Makes sure to say hi to the little gator in the pond and his turtle friend. Only down side is tons of bugs so bring bug spray.

This was an absolutely perfect experience for a quick weekend getaway. The traffic was very light, only 3 other couples were there while we were. It was clean and peaceful and the office receptionist was very sweet and helpful. We can't wait to go back.

Awesome place to experience history and nature! Before heading back to Florida, I stopped here because I saw it on Google maps. The woman working at the front desk had so much knowledge of the fort and she was so friendly and funny! The trees here are old and huge! The views from the fort of the river is amazing! There's a short trai that menders along the river. You can see ruins of a old sawmill here along the trail and a cottage. Great place to experience colonial history and georgia nature! PS there is a huge ancient oak near the cemetery towards back of property definitely check it out.

Visiting Fort King George was a rewarding experience that provided a tangible connection to Georgia's early colonial past. The fort, meticulously reconstructed, offers a glimpse into life during the 18th century. The guided tour was rich in historical insights, shedding light on the struggles and daily lives of the soldiers stationed there. The museum's artifacts were well-curated and added depth to the understanding of the era.Walking around the barracks, blockhouse, and palisades, I could almost hear the echoes of history. The nearby nature trails and river view added to the scenic beauty of the location.Fort King George is not just a destination but a journey into a crucial time in Georgia's history. It's a must-visit for history enthusiasts seeking to understand the roots of the state. I left with a newfound appreciation for the complexities and resilience of those who shaped our early history.

We visited this site towards the end of the day, it was a step back in time. It was hard to imagine living like this, it's no wonder that there was a lot of illness and death. Anyway the Fort was very interesting and also there are some pretty views of the river. It would be an awesome place to see the sunset. Although it closes at 5pm.

The museum does a great job telling the history of the fort and surrounding area. Very interesting. You can almost feel the history when walking around the site. Biting mosquitoes and flies! I’m talking dive bombers! They don’t normally bother me but be prepared here. Take bug spray. You’ve been warned.

Get ready to fight mosquitoes! It increases your sympathy for those forced to serve here in the 1700s. Interesting stop off I-95.

A walking trail & a stately home tour highlight life on this historic antebellum rice plantation.
The history was amazing here and the guided tour phenomenal! Our tour guide took us through the entire home and her stories came from a gentleman who used to work with the original owners. All of the furnishings were left in the house when it was left to the state of Georgia!

Amazing grounds to walk and the house is filled with historic furniture. You can hear about the plantation's history and the families connection to the war and post slavery dairy farming. Furniture was all original to the families that lived there and is an amazing collection.

This Plantation of the era of Mount Vernon it seemed appropriate our home tour guide volunteer docent, Linda, should be a Virginian. We are ever fascinated with the complicated frontier history of this great country. On this midday Thursday Linda ably set the stage to get a glimpse Georgia coastal life in an earlier time. A few hours here is well spent. A walk amongst the many magnificent live oaks that date the time the Spanish first set foot on these shores can be a spiritual event.

Beautiful property right past Butler Plantation. You have to pay to visit the mansion but the outside park is free. Didnt visit the mansion so I can only speak on the property and the oaks trees out here are really old. Great place for some family photos with a old Georgia flair.

Beautiful property with very nice views of the marsh. The building themselves are kept up and look very authentic to the times. Nice farmhouse area with old farming tools as well as some hidden gems inside the house.

I spent an hour or so taking photos and leading a swarm of horseflies around. I can't speak to the tours, but the grounds are beautiful and quiet, with spectacular live oaks and a marsh access. I'm thankful to those involved with preserving our history.

The plantation is open from M-F 9-5pmEntrance fee $8.00per person from the museum there’s a 10 minutes walk to the House plantation and about 5 buildings. That you can self explore , The Main house has a tour guide And it’s every hour schedule .It was a good plantation to explore quite historical and interesting antiquities from the 1700. Most of the furnitures are intact and original on it’s form. it’s a good educational walk from my perspective and you too can explore this place. So enjoy and have fun.

This is a beautiful plantation that represents the history and culture of Georgia 1800s, enslaved African laborers, helped William Brailsford cultivate a rice plantation from marshes along the Altamaha River.Tg8s family evolved with the times turning this once a rice farm into a dairy one. The last survivor of the family left the property to the state of Georgia in 1973.Easy to find, ample parking and a beautiful sight to see. Great for the whole family. Bring your insect repellent, mosquitoes are wild here! You can go and check out a nice museum, watch a short film about the Plantation history. Inside the plantation house you'll be able to see gorgeous antiques very well kept.Great family friendly visit option!

This place was absolutely amazing! We had a tour guide show us around the house and it was breath taking. After the tour we were allowed to roam around the plantation. There were so many cool places to check out! I definitely recommend bring sunscreen and bug spray! I can not tell you how many times I got but our there by the marsh. I wish I could show you more pictures! I took so many on this trip but sadly I can only give you 50.

We spent very little time here. We had done two other state parks in close proximity, and when we pulled up, we found out that you had to, yet again, pay more money, even with a state park pass to come inside. Really getting sick and tired of Georgia letting you buy a pass and then charging you for 35% of all the other state monuments and parks. The grounds are perfectly beautiful and the trees, I think they are live oaks, are massive and easily 200 years or older. The grounds are well-maintained. However, we did not find ourselves wanting to spend more money just to go view some more buildings. I think after you visit the King George site, there’s really no need to come here. However, I think I’m probably biased. It was fine.

We were heading to Fort King George and seen the sign for the Hofwyl-Broadfield Plantation, so we took time to visit and it was absolutely amazing. We loved the grounds and the old buildings were awesome. The tour guide was amazing, she definitely made the trip. There is a lot of walking but there's also places to sit if you want a break. I definitely recommend taking the time to take the guided tour of the house.

Amazing afternoon learning about history! Thank you to our lovely tour guide for showing us the main house. A beautiful property for anyone travelling through Georgia. Make a stop...the tours are $8 for an adult and gives you access to walk around the entire Plantation.

If you want to visit the old South, this is a good start. Beautiful property with plenty of room for kids to run about. The grove of old oak trees is nice. The plantation home hourly tour is well-done and you can freely wander the property. At one time it was a rice plantation worked by slaves. This location is close to Fort King George and the remains of the Butler plantation. There are a few additional buildings for the old dairy and an old Cutlass Supreme. The park does a large event around Dec 1st.

A great experience for those with a curiosity for American history. In particular the history behind this plantation, it's previous owners and workers and their ways of life in historical Georgia. As well as their respective roles in preserving this part of history for the multiple generations to come. Very lovely and rare pieces to see here and a very lovely scenery for memorable pictures ❤️

Plan on spending at least two hours at this location. Tours are given on the hour. The staff here are exceptionally friendly. This destination is a must-see. This site has two live oaks that are 500-800 years old. Be wary that in the summertime, the biting flies and mosquitoes can be exceptionally fierce. Our volunteer docent, Linda, took exceptional pride in her job.

The St. Simons Island Lighthouse Museum is a well-maintained and historic coastal property that features a lighthouse and educational exhibits in the former keeper's dwelling. The museum offers interesting exhibits and visitors can climb the 129 steps to the top for great views. The gift shop is well-stocked and staffed by knowledgeable volunteers who are friendly and helpful. It is recommended to take a self-guided tour of this beautiful property, which is located within easy walking distance from downtown shops.
Loved our time at the St. Simon's Lighthouse...we bought a duo package ticket which included admission for the WWII Museum (at another location nearby). Plan to spend about an hr. at the lighthouse alone. There is a nice gift shop with a small theatre in that building which runs about a 10 minute historical video about the lighthouse. Then you exit to enter the lighthouse museum. Two floors with the first floor containing displays and information boards on the history of this lighthouse, the daily life of a keeper, & a walk through if the history of the area. Upstairs consist of period rooms that reflected the keeper's home.Next, you climb the 129 steps of the lighthouse tower. Fairly easy climb, with platforms to stop every 1/4 of the way or so AND signs to let you know how many more steps to go. 😉 It was quite cold and windy the day we visited, but well worth the climb. The view is beautiful, as you reach the too and can walk 360° around the exterior top of the tower. There is a small gazebo and atrium on the grounds, a cannon, fuel house, and a boardwalk down to the shore.

Was not my first visit to St. Simons Island itself, however, first time visiting the St Simon's Island Lighthouse and museum... Could not have asked for more! Myself and one other, the two of us were not sure about online tickets, or in person. So we opted for going in person (during a weekday) did not seem too busy. The staff in gift shop and ticket purchases were wonderful, very helpful and knowledgeable about programs or tickets, as well as tours if requested... Few other volunteers or staff around museum were very helpful as well, and seemed available (unless very busy of course) if had any questions... We just browsed museum at our own leisure and explored the house itself, as well then proceeded to top of light house itself. ((Approximately or roughly 130 steps to top, but thankfully small areas to stand at windows to look out, or step aside to allow others going down, or up to go by)). The views at top were spectacular! It was certainly a clear and beautiful day, could have spent some time up at top! But would highly recommend comfortable shoes for amount of walking, and perhaps something to drink (water, or something to hydrate, much exercise up and down light house, and around museum)... The area around house was beautiful, and great for walking around light house grounds, gardens, or very close by the beach, or local fishing pier that has plenty of room for walking, or sitting and enjoying the views. Would highly recommend visiting this museum, and take a walk through history!

As an artist, my visit to the Saint Simons Island Lighthouse Museum was an absolute delight and a wellspring of inspiration. This captivating museum not only showcases the island's maritime history but also offers a unique blend of artistry, history, and architecture. The lighthouse itself is a work of art, standing tall and proud against the coastal backdrop. Its iconic red and white stripes make for a striking visual, and the opportunity to climb to the top was a true treat. The view from up there, with the vast ocean stretching out before you and the island's landscape laid out like a canvas, is nothing short of breathtaking.Inside the museum, I found myself immersed in a world of maritime artistry. The carefully curated exhibits are a testament to the island's rich nautical heritage. The collection of ship models, maritime paintings, and intricately crafted ship figureheads transported me back in time, evoking the essence of seafaring adventures. One particular highlight was the attention to detail in the exhibits. From the intricate ship models that showcased the craftsmanship of bygone eras to the captivating maritime photography that captured the island's soul, every corner of the museum seemed designed to ignite the imagination. The museum also did a commendable job of intertwining art and history, making it a true cultural gem. It's not just a place for history buffs but also a haven for artists seeking inspiration from the island's maritime legacy.Saint Simons Island Lighthouse Museum is a treasure trove for artists like me. It seamlessly weaves together the island's history, stunning architecture, and a rich tapestry of maritime artistry. It's an absolute must-visit for anyone who appreciates the beauty of both the sea and the artistic expressions it has inspired throughout the ages.

Went on a Tuesday, as soon as they opened at 10am. Got a nice magnet from the store and bought our tickets there. There is a theatre and then you walk through the courtyard to the lighthouse. Great exhibits for kids and amazing views. If you have little kids prepare to have a workout at the lighthouse. Staff was very polite, informational and pleasant to be around. Would come back!

Well-preserved historical relics that speak to how the entire Georgia evolved. The kids loved it and described it as 'the most fascinating showpiece ever' as described in their own words😉

This was a great site to see if you are on the Island. It is $12.00 per adult for the museum, a short film and the climb to the top of the lighthouse. You can also do a combination pass for $20.00 which gets you into the World War ll museum as well. It is 129 steps up to the top of the lighthouse so you might want to get there in the morning when it is a little cooler. The crowds were not terrible but we went on a Tuesday. We chose to go to the top of the lighthouse before touring the museum and when we got to the top we were the only ones up there, which was amazing. I can’t imagine being a lighthouse keeper in the 1800’s lugging a 3 gallon jug of oil up every night to keep the lighthouse lit! Definitely worth the stop!

A quick visit to this lighthouse! The staff were friendly and the climb was quick. This lighthouse doesn't have as much to see as other lighthouses I've been to, but that's okay! I was returning home from a road trip, so it was a good leg stretcher and break halfway through my drive. There are bathrooms onsite that are clean. If you have kids, there seems to be a pool/water park in the same parking area, just keep in mind that you can't climb the lighthouse in flipflops or a bathing suit.

Well kept property with knowledgeable employees. Came on a rainy day but we still had a great time. The only downside was the cost. I found that $12 was a little much for the overall experience.

Lovely lighthouse which you can climb! Museum attached and gift shop, where they do have a lighthouse stamp for the passport book. The beach at the edge of the lighthouse grounds is beautiful to walk while there.

As with every lighthouse we have visited, we made it a point to climb right to the top and take in the majestic view. I love climbing stairs and there's nothing like a set of Victorian spiral stairs to get in a bit of good exercise. This lighthouse and keeper's house have been kept in good repair and the keeper's house has been returned to its original configuration (restoring nice central staircase). A pleasing small museum with theater is adjacent and staffed by affable staff. Certainly well worth a visit.

Driftwood Beach, located on the north end of Jekyll Island, is a picturesque and one-of-a-kind beach destination. This beach is known for its numerous driftwood trees that create an impressive and unique sight. The size and number of these trees make them a fascinating subject to walk around and take endless photo opportunities. Driftwood Beach offers a beautiful experience that appeals to both kids and adults alike, as they can climb or sit on top of the driftwood trees to get great pictures.
Super cool spot. We just happened to walk out at golden hour before sunset and there were tons of photographers here (and people). Well worth it for the sunset views.Very cool experience, ample parking (including ADA), and easy to access sand trails to the beach.

AMAZING! Located on the north end of Jekyll island. The remains of a forest eradicated by erosion stand as reminders of another time on this beach. Beautiful and haunting. Seeing the root systems exposed is so interesting. Lovely area with gentle waves. No pavilions with showers or bathrooms nearby. Street side parking with a walk down a sandy path gets you to the beach. Lovely area and not commercially developed. Quiet and relaxing. Perfect for a restful beach day. Highly recommend!

It was wonderful experience it was first time visitIt is so fascinating just take a walk along the beach where you find many photo shots opportunities. There are so many dead trees and driftwood around you just need to observe to capture cool picsI recommend this place for either sunrise or sunsets for photo shotsNeed to be careful with all the crabs and mosquitos flies and so many different creatures.

A MUST see if you're anywhere nearby, and I highly recommend going at sunrise to watch the sun come up across the ocean. There were many of us there today at sunrise, and lots of pictures being taken.I suppose you could swim here, but I wouldn't recommend as the trees are all over in the water and you wouldn't want to get caught up in one of them. I spent about an hour taking pictures and walking up and down the beach to see the whole thing.Remember, you must go at sunrise for the beauty. If you go at sunset, the sun will be on the other side away from the water and won't be very exciting. Get there at least 30 minutes before the official sunrise time for the best views before/after sunrise.August 18, 2024.

Absolutely spectacular view. One of a kind beach for sure ! Not a place to hang out all day because the 6 foot tide will push you off the little sand that is there at low tide.So worth the little walk and a beautiful photo opportunity if you're there at the right time. Sunset would be perfect! But the middle of the day was stunning in itself. Some spots have rocks, and some spots are open for a small swim. Water is not the clearest but is warm. Did see dogs on leashes there.

It had rained all night - I thought that the beach would be hard/boring to see under overcast skies. I rode a bike there and was thrilled to see how moody it actually was. Very surreal place, with dead trees and branches reaching out and upward. People were picnicing there and it really was a delightful experience.

Wow...WOW!!! We visited at evening and in the early a.m. for the sunrise. Both are great but the sunrise is a MUST!! This is one of my favorite places in Georgia. In the summer, it's the perfect place to go and play in the water. Pretty cool place. Doesn’t feel like Earth. More of a wasteland for a beach. It fills up very fast so id get there early. Plenty of parking but it will be on the side. Seeing it at night is even cooler. You have a good view of St Simons Lighthouse as well. Be careful in the water as there are many jagged rocks to step on scattered in the shallows

The Georgia Sea Turtle Center is an educational institution dedicated to the study, protection and recovery of sea turtles and their ecosystem. It has a vast store with a diverse range of items associated with the center. The facility offers informative exhibits on sea turtles and rehabilitation services available here. Visitors can also observe the place where injured sea turtles are taken care of outside the building. The center conducts programs like "Meet the Patients" to acquaint visitors with different patients in tanks showcasing its work on marine animal rescue.
My kids enjoyed this a lot (11 and 9). It is pretty small, one building has the patients in and has information about them all, the other is more of an information center/museum. There are several hands on displays and you can watch the staff working on injured turtles. This place does great work and is definitely worth supporting.

Short visit, but enjoyed the center. The exhibit room is small but very informative. There is a lot to learn about different species of sea turtles! There is a viewing area into the clinic area, which is really neat if they are working on a turtle. You can also go into the rehabilitation area to see turtles currently in rehab. The staff is very knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions! Would love to go back for a behind the scenes tour.

We really enjoyed our visit. The workers were extremely knowledgeable and helpful. They spent lots of time educating and explaining things. We learned a lot of the turtles in the education center before going out and seeing them. They were all in very clean water. They had enrichments for their environment and were being fed very well. There was lots of information about the turtles they were rehabbing and lots about the ones they already released. The gift shop was very big with lots of things. The prices were very reasonable. The tickets were very reasonably priced as well. I hope we can come back again.

Kids loved it along with the parents too!We spent about an hour and a half enjoying all the information and seeing dozens of turtles. When going inside you walk into the gift shop then head into exhibit. There is a path that leads outside to the hospital which was informative. There is information beside each turtle with their name and the reason for their stay.We got to see baby turtles that had hatched a week or two prior to our visit!

Education and fun. We took two grandsons to see the turtles. The older was very interested. The 4 yo mainly wanted to turn knobs and play with things. The exhibit was very well laid out and the turtle hospital was also good. What really makes the place is the volunteers. They have so much knowledge that they want to share. They also make it much more interesting for the younger patrons.

This was a little difficult to navigate to so make sure to use GPS. Very little cell service. The museum is a little small but the rehabilitation center is worth it all. Friendly staff and very educational. I spent 2 hours just in the rehab center talking with the volunteers and learning about the turtles they have now.

I visited a few weeks ago and truly enjoyed the time I spent here learning about the sea turtles. The staff members I spoke to were very knowledgeable and friendly and answered all of my questions. It was a fun and educational experience. I loved learning about the rehabilitation process and how they treat the different conditions of the patients. I will definitely visit again the next time I am in the area.

My sons enjoyed visiting here. We went on 4th of July and they were open. It is a smaller center but there is a lot to see. I was surprised to see how many sea turtles they actually had. We got to see them treating one of the loggerheads that was ill. They had baby Terrapins too which was cool to see. It was $10 a person to visit the center but if you’re on Jekyll and have run out of things to do on the island, I recommend.

Kind of disappointed with the center because the exhibits are mostly reading and lift-the-flaps rather than truly interactive. The rehabilitation area was interesting, however, and we were able to see a few sea turtles swimming in their little “hospital rooms.” The gift shop was nice.

This was great and so fun for my toddler (and the adults)! All the staff we met were very friendly and knowledgeable. I loved learning about the rehabilitation process and turtles in general.

I enjoyed my visit here but do feel it could do a little more to engage visitors/increase the experience.Your visit is mostly self guided although someone does speak about the turtles for about 15 minutes inside the rehab. The indoor exhibit has some turtle facts and also a viewing area into the hospital room; they were cleaning a little guys flipper who had recently been brought injured. The rehab area had a number of pools with turtles inside. Some of the turtles had to be viewed by looking at a mirror and you are a distance away from the turtles so it is kind if hard to see them. Our visit lasted 30 minutes and that was with us really taking our time- our ticketed time slot was 9a-10a. I thought there would have been more of a presentation/tour. I wouldn't personally go out of your way for this visit.

We visited the turtle sanctuary on a Tuesday in June. We did not have advance purchase tickets but it was not an issue, although we did not do the behind the scenes tour. It was $12.00 a person to get in which supports the sanctuary. There is a gift shop, hands on stations for kids (and adults) that gives insight to the life and migration of different turtles. There is a sea turtle hospital that houses injured and sick turtles along with other types of sea animals. (There was an injured alligator when we were there). It was small, and did not take a lot of time to see, but we were glad we did it since our admission helped the sanctuary!

Wonderful that this place exists and is able to rescue so many sea turtles, and nurse them back to health. Fantastic volunteers who are super knowledgeable and also very friendly. The center is not very large, but it does offer all the information you could want about sea turtles as well as the challenges they face out in the ocean, and is definitely worth a visit.

Fantastic step back in time. Beautiful resort with old world charm. Food and service is great the rooms are beautiful the kind of place you would like to explore. No elevator the building was built before electricity was invented. Room service is only once every 3 days. Other than that it was a wonderful time

Just an FYI to everyone.... The place is beautiful and full of history. The historical district is something to behold....HOWEVER.... we called to schedule a nice meal here for around 2pm. Over the phone, when the meal reservation was made, we were told the meal would cost $26 a person. When we got the bill, it was a whopping $65 each. Apparently, the BREAKFAST meal is $26. A 2pm brunch is $65.... WHY weren't we told this when we made a reservation for 2 in the afternoon???My wife and I had considered a room at this place in the future... Not anymore. I thought I was paying a third of what came out of my pocket for that meal. The food was decent, but it wasn't gold-laced. And even if it were, we should have been made aware of such...I rarely comment, but felt this experience was worth warning folks about, especially if you bring your family.

One of our favorite places on the east coast. For flying guests the airport (09J) is just down the road and fine for singles or twins (not long enough for jets). You can get to the hotel by renting a golf cart (called Red Bugs down here), or if you are very nice the Club will send the shuttle out to pick you up (tip them nicely).

This place and the history it represents is nothing short of amazing! CJ giving us a historical tour was incredible. Just sitting on the porch h enjoying the view was nothing short of perfection along with the sunset from the Wharf. This is a must visit for all things nostalgic! Seriously! Book now!

We just went for cocktails and did not stay there. The bar staff was really good. We enjoyed the cocktails and all of our drinks. The atmosphere is really nice. I would recommend this place to go to for drinks. We have never stayed there but have been there twice for cocktails.

Really enjoyed my two day stay. The ocean club hotel room was amazing. Large room, with separate seating area and porch that looked out on the dunes and water. The other hotel was historic and had a great southern feel. Had a fantastic drink in the hotel bar there, and enjoyed it in a nice leather chair looking at the architecture.Beach service with umbrella and chairs was key. They were easy to work with.

Absolutely beautiful area. Bicycle rentals are a must. Many areas to explore and river boardwalk is awsome. Many very old live oaks for perfect picture taking. Was here for a banquet and the service was excellent. Stayed in the main resort area. Beautiful setting with delightful shops to explore. Croquet with chairs to sit and watch. Large swimming pool areas with bar opened during season. Rooms were comfy and stocked with amenities. Must see!!!

I cannot speak highly enough about this place. Service was excellent all around. Atmosphere was excellent. Yes their rooms are dated but that's what I went for! The ambiance was awesome - it felt like a 1920s club. The Wharf had the best sunset views. I would highly recommend to any and all travelers! I recommend everyone read "Creature from Jekyll Island" before visiting btw!

We just had a wonderful 2 night stay at the Jekyll Ocean Club with our 2 kids. The room is very spacious and great for a family of 4. The pool and beach area were very peaceful and nothing felt overcrowded. All the staff were very friendly. We rented bikes for a day and went around the island on the many bike paths. We stopped over at their other property the Island Club and used the pool, which was great to cool off. We had breakfast at the Ocean Club and Island Club, which were both great. The Island Club is a buffet in a beautiful historic setting. Kids also did s’mores one night at the island club by the pool area. We also had dinner at the Wharf. Great cocktails and scenery and had an great view of a beautiful sunset. We also had dinner at the Ocean Club and it was delicious as well!

So I must be in the minority. I was looking for a more modern stay at Jekyll Island and by the photos I saw on the website I must have just been looking with foggy glasses.Everything about this resort I feel duped about. Not directly on the beach at all, very old no matter what room or house you stay in and I don’t mean just because it’s older it’s not great but it gave me a modern vibe from the photos - but in reality it was dilapidated and outdated. Also very small and almost little to no signage to entrance of the place, or directions to get to our cottage. The staff was helpful but if you’re not staying in the same building felt like I never saw anyone except for check in. Our phones didn’t work, and uber eats had to come to the main house which is quite a walk.We were staying at the crane cottage which was nice, but boring. There should be guest refreshments in each house changed daily - it felt like a ghost house and not inviting at all.The gym was disgusting underneath the already old resort in an odd basement. Store hours on the resort were only until 5PM, overall I’d never come back at least not to stay overnight.Perhaps it’s just me, I didn’t want historical silence? I wanted a modern resort and to be closer to the beach I just should have done more research.Bathroom and the sight out of the balcony of the crane house may have been the only thing I thought was beautiful about this place.

Ostentatious colonial type of hotel and facilities, fantastic!Wonderful with a quiet piece of history of a celebrated US part of history. As British, loved it.Various options in one place from a good walk, food and narrated journey around the site.Did not stay at the hotel but used all the other facilities.

We always have such a wonderful stay here. The front desk staff was very helpful and Mike was quick and gracious in responding to any issues. We rode bikes one day, sat by the pool one day, and played 18 holes. We ate at The Wharf, Zachary's, and had awesome breakfasts at the Ocean Club and in the hotel restaurant. It's always such a peaceful and relaxing experience.

I attended a wedding at Jekyll island club, first I’ll start with good. The location is very unique, with some of the most breathtaking views. The ability to bike the entire island and convenience of an on location bike rental shop is very nice. The food at all spots at the club, including the wedding was very mediocre and way over priced. You are trapped on an island that costs 10 dollars just to get on, so you are stuck eating what is out there and dealing with fairly early close times. The issue I had was with the grounds. The entire wedding we were being attacked by no-see ems (bugs) it was honestly unbearable. Bugs were in your drinks, your food, and constantly biting you all over. It really took away from the experience. The venue seemed to do very little to prevent a known issue and I’m honestly not quite sure how you could have such a beautiful place and not find a solution via fans or spraying to mitigate the bug problem. I would never go back to a wedding here.

Did not stay there. Had the Sunday brunch. Expensive. No bread variety. No whole wheat. Scrambled eggs dry. Shrimps over cooked and we're not clean. Pork loin dry. Coffee not great. Sorry. I was disappointed. Went 10 years ago and it seemed much better. Fruits not great. One very important thing. Have the lift for handicapped working. I am unable to use stairs. There was a father who had to carry his adult son. Pick him up from wheelchair to take him up the stairs. Needs caring personnel.

This resort area of the island is for those who love history. But that’s it. Everything here cost four times what it would cost you somewhere else. The pool is hot as bathwater. The prepared food at the Wharf and any of the little shops inside this resort area are okay but nothing I would say tasted amazing. The little shoppes are bare bones. The alcoholic drinks are weak everywhere outside of the Wharf. The options for food at eat location are minimal (no more than 2-5 options at each location). The rooms themselves are the best part. Very clean, cozy & functional (TV, fridge, keurig style coffee maker). Bathroom is standup shower only (no tub).

My family and I went to brunch in the main dining room. The food was good (not great), and we had a very nice time ...UNTIL staff started setting up for an event. Our reservation was for 12:30 PM and then at 1:00 staff began setting up for an event scheduled for 3:00 PM - We felt bum-rushed and our server was diverted from taking care of our table. We had a nice time regardless, but I don't think it's appropriate to do what they did: Dining guests should be able to finish their meal before setup begins.

We love this resort. It is like an oasis of sorts. We feel at home here. The rooms are lovely and the grounds are stunning. The staff is very welcoming. There is so much to do here, including just relaxing. The property is like stepping through time, which we love.

I did not stay here - but would love to some time. The buildings are gorgeous, spread out over their beautiful property. Saw people on the veranda and they were laughing, seemed to be having a great time. Lots of history here, nice to see while walking around the island. When I visit Jekyll Island again, this is where I will stay.

Fort Clinch State Park is a large Florida state park that includes the Fort Clinch, built in 1847 after the end of the Second Seminole War. The park features 1,400 acres of natural Florida wildlife and coastal land with trails to explore below the canopy.
Absolutely love camping here when we can get a spot. It doesn’t matter if you are in the river campground or the beach campground, they are both very close to the beach. Only electric and water at each campsite but the dump station is easily accessible and is not next to any RV sites.Very clean restrooms that are cleaned daily with bleach. Good ventilation so the floors dry. Campground hosts available for any issues.

This is a huge property. 😲 But the campgrounds are small.😦 Of the two, one is half the size of the other. I also feel one is more desireable than the other. The beach one seems to be a better location. The bathhouse is wonderful.Sadly camping spaces at this property are rarely available. Yet there will always be empty ones 🤷🏻♂️System does not work efficiently and no one at the state level seems to do anything about it 🤬There are miles of hiking and biking trails. Just biking on the main road in and out is wonderful. It is completely shaded and winding through the woods 😎

This place is beautiful. I enjoyed the tranquility, the nature trails (Willow Pond Nature Trail) the grounds, and the views of the fort. The beach stroll was equally delightful. The highlight for me was the stunning wildlife. For the first time in my life, I saw white-tailed deer grazing and enjoying life. I’m happy they have a safe space here. I also saw a big, cute turtle. The beach wasn’t crowded, so I was able to relax, take in the sights, and listen to the water crashing against the rocks. The drive up to the parking lot is amazing too, with a tree canopy covering the entire road.

This park is gorgeous! From towering dunes to ancient oak trees to a historical fort, it is an incredibly diverse location with rich natural resources and broad appeal. As a birder, I was excited to have a variety of preserved habitats. The marshy overlook had great shorebirds and the extensive hardwood canopy was a sure bet for warblers and other passerines. The shoreline was great for seabirds, shorebirds and sharks’ teeth. There is a narrow multi-use path for bicyclists and pedestrians that runs through the park. During our visit, we only used small stretches of the path to access some of the views, but it looked amazing. The only negative is that this place gets packed, and during peak times, closes to new visitors to limit capacity. There seems to be a lot of zippy traffic on the road and I could never figure out why people are in such a hurry when there is so much beauty even on the main road. If you’re in the area and are a nature lover, this should definitely be on your list!

Sublime and relaxing. Canopy of trees with Spanish Moss and Palmetto everywhere. Facilities include bright and clean bathrooms with shower stalls, washers and dryers ($2 per load) The fort is a major draw and the river has sandy beach along its shoreline. Plenty of hiking trails. A bike is a good have as the place is huge.

Clean restrooms! No driving on the beach not a worry to me. Outdoor showers to rinse off. Plenty of ocean life, seashells and sharks teeth. Places to camp both tent and camper. Trails to walk on! The fort itself is pretty darn cool and great photo spots.6.00 dollars to get in not too bad....worth it to me for clean restrooms! There is a ramp to get on beach but not much after the ramp if there is a wheelchair friend.

Such an amazing piece of history. Well maintained lots of little facts located around the fort great for self exploration. Wonderful walking trails outside the fort and around the beach area. The beach is usually quite and peaceful a great place to find sharks teeth just walking along the shore. The family and I look forward to returning for the history and beach-time fun.

Beautiful Fort. Like walking into a movie set or a novel that has come alive. By that I mean it was set up like the forts in books I have read but have never seen except in my mind. This is not just a single rectangular brick building it’s an entire community inside the walls. The museum has set the rooms up with home goods, and other items in the Quarter Masters Warehouse or store to give a view into living there. The fort was so fascinating with all of the tunnels and stairwells between the inner and outer walls one could imagine protecting it. Say hello to the lone soldier, in full uniform, guarding the fort itself. Tip: bring your water bottle out with you so you can linger longer and look past the cannons to the view of the ocean beyond. The museum itself also has interesting information and artifacts.

My husband and I, always eager for a daytime adventure, found ourselves drawn to Fort Clinch State Park during our stay in Amelia Island. We had driven past it a few times and curiosity got the better of us - a decision we’re now incredibly grateful for. The park not only offered excellent campgrounds but also revealed itself to be a historic gem.Upon entering, we were immediately struck by how well-preserved the fort is. It’s like stepping into a different era. The museum-like demonstrations are exceptionally well done. We explored the sleeping quarters, kitchens, latrines, jailhouse, storage areas, and even a store and steelworks. Also several real life artillery and cannons were on display. Each section was an insightful glimpse into the past, making it easy to imagine life during those times. The attention to detail in these demonstrations was remarkable, offering a vivid and educational experience. The most captivating aspect of Fort Clinch is how it immerses you in history. It’s not just about seeing; it’s about feeling the past around you. We spent hours wandering through the grounds, absorbing every detail, and left with a newfound appreciation for the history of the area. Our visit to Fort Clinch has inspired us to plan a camping trip there on our next visit to Amelia Island. The thought of spending a night under the stars, surrounded by such rich history, is thrilling. We highly recommend Fort Clinch to anyone visiting Amelia Island, whether you’re a history buff, nature lover, or just looking for a unique way to spend your day. It’s a must-visit destination that offers a perfect blend of education, nature, and adventure.

I'm not a history buff, but for $2.50/person to enter the fort I figured I'd check it out. I thought it was really neat just to walk around looking at a 150 year old fort, it's a peak into the way others lived long ago and how times sure have changed. It's nearly completely open to walk around wherever you'd like, there's only a few locked doors in the buildings, so it was fun to see what was inside all of the different buildings. I recommend checking it out if you're already going for the beach. Tickets to enter the fort can be purchased in the visitors center, which also has a gift shop inside.I also went to the beach, there's plenty of parking in the lot. I went specifically to find a sharks tooth, and unfortunately could not find one. I did talk to another person which had found several small ones they showed me.

Very beautiful park with different reenactments of key eras in Fl history. Very educational to see the memorabilia, the fort. The views of the beach are beautiful! If I could rate them higher than 5 I would. I had suite 213. Great rooms. Breakfast bar had everything. The hot food was prepared correctly. Very friendly staff at this location. I stayed 4 nights and all the staff had that southern hospitality going. A special Star to the people servicing the rooms. I was working on my laptop when they came to clean the room. I saw them really clean. I will definitely stay here in the future. The stores and eateries are great. We have found a new vacation spot.

The hotel and rooms were nice and the location was great. Staff was polite.Only had one issue: the toilet kept backing up. The staff was accommodating and moved us to another room. When you flushed this toilet the sink would gurgle. Weird, but I hear other hotels have the same plumbing issue. Overall, it was a nice stay.

We enjoy staying at Hampton Inns because of the consistently clean and well maintained properties we find around the country. I've rated most of them 5 stars. However, the Hampton at the Historic section on Amelia Island fell short of that standard. We arrived and were unable to find parking. At check-in, we were told we could use the lot across the street. It was an unpaved lot with no lines marking parking spaces and vehicles were parking in the most unorganized manner. I was concerned about this all night. In the morning, an oversized truck was a fraction of an inch from my car leaving me no room to open my driver-side door. We carried our luggage up to our room and one of the Hampton employees was vacuuming the hallway carpet with no regard for the fact he was blocking our way. He knew we needed to pass by but kept vacuuming. How rude that was. Then the door to our room needed a lot of force just to open. I think this is because they want all doors to close completely, but this one didn't do that. We had to push it to make sure it was completely closed every time. Then there was the shower door. It would not remain stationary in its track, it would always roll to the middle position. So when we wanted it open fully, to get in, it would roll half-closed. And while in the shower, when you want it closed, it opens half way on its own. Finally, I will say the location is great. The breakfast buffet was very good ,and the other reviews complaining about trains waking them up are exaggerations. The train passed by at 7:45 when we were already up and it was not loud enough to wake us up had we been in a deep sleep. We did not use the earplugs the hotel provided. Also, that train did not rumble the room With better maintenance, this could be a great hotel, because the beautiful location in the historic district is unmatched.

Leaving a 1 star review for this specific experience, stayed here many times and it has been fine. They are doing construction around the pool, I stayed in 236, and they are literally jack hammering outside the wall. No hyperbole, it is not safe to be in the room without ear protection. I'm not sure why this room, or any near the pool area were permitted to be rented, it seems wildly inappropriate. No other rooms were available. I had to pack up immediately, check out, and find another hotel which was quite inconvenient.

We had an evening boat event in the area and decided to stay the night. Check-in was a breeze and the lady at the front desk was so nice! The lobby was beautiful and had a nice seating area, cozy fire place and this really cook clock in the ceiling. The room was super clean and we had an amazing view. They had ear plugs with the toiletries in the bathroom and I think it is from the train that runs by. Woke me up the next morning. Wasn't bad through, only went by twice. The breakfast was a little better than standard (but I hear typical for Hampton). The most important feature though is the location.. it is SO convenient. We could easily walk to all the different restaurants and attractions. Definitely, will be back.

This hotel is not worthy of it's current 4.4 rating. The rooms are dirty and definitely showing their age. Beds are sagging, Sheets were too small and popping off the bed. Stains on the carpet. Dirty bathroom grout & caulk. Shower head was yellow (originally white) and full of scale. Toilet was so old the enamel had completely worn off of it. Sink/ shower do not drain correctly. No in room microwave.Great location but that's about it.

I can't say enough about this quaint Inn on Amelia Island! It is the best location, with a view of the water and walkable to all the shops and restaurants. The rooms were surprisingly spacious and although a bit older, ours was very clean and well kept, the wet bar area was a nice surprise! I loved using the digital app to check in and the communication before, during and after our trip. Not sure if it is because I'm a Hilton honors member, but the special touches were much appreciated with bottled water goodie bag filled with maps and helpful local information in our room. The staff are friendly and incredibly accommodating. We're already planning our visit here again next year!

We stayed here recently when we were in town for a wedding. The staff was very nice and efficient. Parking onsite was good and our room was nice and clean. Location was great for what we needed. We happened to be there for Easter weekend and woke up to a goodie bag at our door from the hotel Sunday morning. Really nice touches!Only two things we didn’t love were the trains running by early in the morning and the fact that the towels never really dried in the bathroom.Overall, great place to stay!

We have been going for many years. This time we arrived on June 25, 2024, and the woman at the desk was rude to an elderly woman in front of us. Our room was not clean. We asked for another room, and the same receptionist made it known by her attitude that she was not happy. The second room was better but still not clean. The toilet had dirt around the rim, the corners of the floor were not clean, and the bathroom sink drain was very slow. My guess is that the cleaning and maintenance staff supervisor is not doing his/her job. In addition, due to the great location, the hotel is much more expensive than the other Hiltons.

We had the best stay here! I normally only stay at Marriott but wanted to be walking distance from all the bars and restaurants downtown. The location was absolutely unbeatable, right in the heart of downtown. Our room was so nice and clean, and we received excellent customer service when we were welcomed by Eric. The hotel breakfast is really good and they've decorated the whole hotel really nicely for christmas. The only thing I would recommend to anyone staying soon is to avoid rooms by the pool due to the construction noise. We were put in a room away from it so I assume management is already trying their best to separate people from the noise. The train tracks run right by too so you will hear loud trains and train horns but it's no big deal. Can't wait to stay here again!

A group of friends and I were here for a wedding. We had an incredible experience at the Hampton Inn. The staff was lovely and helpful, the room had everything we needed and was extremely clean. It was also in a perfect location - we couldn’t have asked for a better first stay in Amelia Island!

I have to say that the rooms were clean and loved the fireplace. It was the most perfect location, being that it sits right on the waterfront and walking distance to all restaurants, bars, and souvenir shops. However, after a long flight and finally getting some sleep, we were awakened by a train passing through at 6am and this happened both nights we stayed at this hotel. On top of the train tracks being next to the hotel, the hotel is also currently going through extensive renovations and the strong paint smells are prevalent throughout the hallways. Lots of construction inside and outside the hotel. At the price, they are charging it is not worth the stay since there are renovations going on. The pool wasn't available either. It's no wonder they provided ear plugs inside your room because of the train that is extremely loud when passing through. We wanted to experience staying by the water and honestly it probably would have been better to stay somewhere else.

We snuck away from reality and loved every minute! The room was comfortable, everyone so kind and they even left us a gift basket for our anniversary! Shopping and eateries close by and walk everywhere! Then we visited the Jax Zoo-NFL game-Beach Walks-Location is a TEN.

We booked at this hotel for our 10th anniversary because the location was in the heart of the historic downtown area, providing us walking access to the Fernandina Beach sites. The suite was set up as shown in the photos and did overlook the harbor.Unfortunately, there is an active train track that runs between the hotel building and the harbor/pier area. Although the train was slow moving, it still shook the floor of our top floor suite and was quite noisy during the night and early morning hours. The bed was comfortable but the room was lacking in overall cleanliness- hard surface flooring was very dirty, toilet bowl was not properly cleaned and was loose, and the room did not smell fresh. The hotel staff members with whom we interacted during our stay were polite and accommodating. The hotel held a nightly guest reception and served selections of non-alcoholic drinks along with beer and wine and light appetizers/finger foods. The options were below expectations and there was no ambiance (dimmed lighting, music...) to the event making it feel rather sterile. I broke out my iPhone and added Pandora music to provide a little atmosphere. After we returned home we discovered that we left a phone charger behind in our room. The staff did find it and directed us to a website to fill out a "lost item" form. At the end of the form, we were given choices of how to get the charger returned to us. ALL of the choices had fees that exceeded the value of the item. Suffice it to say, the hotel now has a free iPhone charger since the policy ONLY provides the return of items via that AI process and we live too far away to make the drive back to retrieve our item.Overall, we would NOT recommend the accommodations we had and the inflexibility of their policies makes this hotel experience rather disappointing.UPDATE: After communicating with the hotel manager, our charger was returned and we were offered a partial refund. We are grateful for their attempts to correct the issues we experienced.

Great location in the middle of historic Fernandina. Easy walking. Lots of restaurants and businesses all within a miles walk. Picked a room overlooking the pool and with a view of the intercostal waterway.

Front desk staff not as welcoming as I'm used to at most Hilton properties. No thank you for being a diamond member, poor communication between front desk and house cleaning staff. Didn't bother to check if room was ready when i arrived. A number of folks waiting in the lobby for 4:pm check in. No rush or special treatment for diamond members.

Had a great experience. Katie, Tracey and fellow at desk (I did not get his name) were very accommodating. Thank you Hilton for upgrading us to the presidential suite, it was marvelous.the location was great, walked everywhere. Would definitely say here again. One of the nicest hilton I've stayed in. Thanks again to the staff mentioned above for their helpfulness and concern.

The Amelia Island Museum of History offers self-guided tours of its collection of artifacts dating back to the region's early history. The museum is located in a former jail, and focuses on local history with a focus on the Timucuan Indians. The guided tour is recommended as the museum's staff are very knowledgeable and engage visitors in interesting stories about the area.
This museum has a lot of cool things you don't usually get to see, like the old soda fountain. We loved their interactive exhibits and scavenger hunt! Afterward, the boys got to get a prize from the pirate's treasure box! Their Florida history displays are very well put together and easy to follow around. This was definitely a worthy stop!

Very informative museam! Touches briefly on the history of who inhabited South Eastern USA dating back to the 1500’s. But most of the information is about the local economy and history of Amelia Island. And Fernadina Beach area 🇺🇸🌴🔥.
Liberty L — Google review
Nice small-town museum. Lots if interactive stuff for kids. I went with five 12-14 year-olds and they had a blast. They particularly loved the remaining jail cell.
Mary A — Google review
We had a wonderful time at this museum. The building is small, but the exhibits are interesting, interactive, and very well made. The highlight of our visit was the tour - John was welcoming, entertaining, and truly a wealth of knowledge. He really made the history come to life. Will be back next time we’re in Fernandina!
Sara C — Google review
This is a very well organized and presented museum. Very clearly labeled and displayed items for Amelia island area. Great job. It only gets 4 stars because of its small size, if they had more space they'd have a more substantial museum.
Headcheese J — Google review
Great little museum! Echoing what other reviewers have said - I recommend going with the free docent tour if available (there was a sign saying that they're offered at 11 and 2 daily). We had Margaret there to tell us the story of Amelia Island throughout the last few centuries and I had no idea so much happened in and around this island! Margaret told the story well and also made several recommendations to other historical sites in the area. The docent tour is around an hour and 15 minutes. $10/adult with or without the docent tour.

We are from PA and visiting family in Yulee. We love Amelia Island and thought this museum would be a great place to check out. It had some great history lessons, and truth be told I had NO idea so much happened back in the day. It was very informative and interactive. I loved "stamping" our map as we navigated through the different areas. There was a cute little dress up area for littles as well. Even as an adult I had fun playing with the different things to open to discover stuff, things to smell, etc.
Katie L — Google review
Highly recommend the guided tour to learn the history of Amelia island from about 4 thousand years ago until now. If you are unaware of the history this is a good way to catch up.
Frank W — Google review
Great little museum with great depth of Amelia Island history! Exhibits were very well done. One or two displays slightly blocked the narratives, but ok. All very well done. Fun Scavenger Hunt to help retain knowledge. Nice stop to see before touring the entire island.
Lynne L — Google review
Cute quick history of the town. Good visual interactions. They have a replica mail since it was the old jail house with many old notes and insights into how it was like to live in that town in historical times. They have a scavenger hunt to keep the littles interested. I enjoyed the physical interactive concepts to help engage and remember the historical lessons being told. The staff are friendly and cheerful.
Kasey M — Google review
A nice place to visit in order to understand a little of Amelia Island history. Not real big, but a good use of space. Different aspects of history separated into rooms. They kept some of the former prison-use aspects when renovating. I would have liked to see more of this internally, though.Kid friendly. The children can collect seal imprints as they go through the museum and get a "treasure" when they finish.
Jfh37813 — Google review
Small museum with exhibits lacking an overall timeline. One section was regarding the old jail, another section regarding shrimp farming, etc., but overall lacking a connection between the exhibits. Also, interesting events like the building of the railroad were only covered on a very shallow basis. For $10 a person, it was overpriced. As an alternative, I would highly recommend the boat tour to Cumberland Island. On the tour, we learned more about the history of Amelia Island and the surrounding area.
A. N — Google review
We booked tickets for the museum tour online and started our morning at the museum before our boat tour. It was the perfect start to a day with family. Our guide was very informative about Amelia Island history and the museum had a lot of neat things for our girls to learn about.
Joy W — Google review
Great museum tucked a block off the main drag. Don't hesitate to take a guided tour with a docent. Mr. Birdsong is a gem of a volunteer. His love of the area shines through. The displays are incredibly professional for a museum in a small town. I really enjoyed stamping my paper as I roamed from room to room reading the displays. Certainly worth the admission price.
Nicole W — Google review
Great place to learn the history of Amelia Island. The volunteer guides do an impressive job walking you through the museum. Learn both good and bad stories of the island. Great way to spend a few hours out of the heat. They also have activities for kids.
Chris O — Google review
It's nice, but very small and kind of pricey. They have a docent program that provides a lecture, but even so, not sure 10 bucks per adult is a fair price for about five small rooms total of exhibits. Not a waste of time per se, but in hindsight I would choose something else to spend my money and time on.
James Y — Google review
Cute museum but not worth the price. $10 per adult is a bit steep. The staff was very friendly. It does give a brief overview of the island.
Angela G — Google review
Great customer service!! The ladies in the beginning were so friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the self guided tour and were able to take as long as we wanted through the place. Loved the nest little stamp hunt throughout. Highly recommend.

Nature & Parks
The park has a huge variety of scenery to take in on the island, with trails that lead you and your dog to the shoreline or up into the maritime forest. Pets are allowed at the park, which is next stop on the A1A.
Big Talbot Island State Park features a gorgeous wooded walk with ocean overlooks and a beach access payoff unspoiled by the overcrowding, noise and litter found at nearly all of our other beaches (besides maybe Little Talbot). There are numerous and diverse experiences depending on which parking area you choose (drive past two small, roadside parking areas to access the largest one), but all are lovely. A seabird sanctuary is ringed by a meandering boardwalk path (which turns to asphalt), alternating between open and shaded tree canopy cover. Great for a bike ride! Ospreys, pelicans, cormorants, kingfishers and eagles all call this place home. The wooded walk is a serpentine trail, of slight inclines (and a few trip roots) through the brush, for those in no hurry. The beach itself is lined with overturned stands of cedar and oak trees (some quite massive, all at varying stages of becoming driftwood) and seemingly paved in parts with patches of soft rock bed (compacted, weathered sandstone and other materials) that make for a relaxing, but equally interesting walk of tidepools, channels and playgrounds for shorebirds and other marine fauna. I should mention that it's not great for shelling, which I suppose is due to the turbulent waters, submerged rocks and oyster beds hidden in the shallows. That aside, and all other wonderful attributes considered, I can't think of a more contemplative experience or enjoyable walk this close to Downtown Jacksonville. Expect to take lots of photos, but seek to just take it all in.
LukeRom — Google review
Beautiful beach. Great little hike for all ages. I have a 2 year old and 7 year old and they were able to do the little walk down to the water and back. The driftwood is beautiful and it's definitely a great place for a photo opportunity.

This is a favorite Jacksonville thing to do. I always bring visitors here to hike the trail to the beach and take pictures of the beautiful weathering trees on the beach. If you love to take nature pictures this is a must do.To be clear - no dogs allowed - so that might be a deterrent if you are passing through with you best friend.Dogs are allowed at Kingsley Plantation and Fort Caroline. Those places are very pretty too.
Sketchy P — Google review
Great place to take photos of birds, sunsets, and sunrises. The only negative is that a lot of people visit the shoreline area to fish or hang out, especially on weekends and holidays, and they leave trash all over the place to either get swept up in the river or get stuck in the nearby vegetation.Every time I visit, I grab what trash I can and bring it back to the trash bin at the parking area.
Toby B — Google review
Beautiful place with stunning views. Bring insect repellent because I did use some out there but I was still getting torn up. TBH I couldn't enjoy myself like I wanted to. I rushed to the nearest Walgreens in order to slather benadryl cream on and take some antihistamines. Sunrise and sunset are the best times to get pictures at Boneyard Beach.
Justice W — Google review
Great beach access, alot beach trash! Me and my son brought out two bags of trash with us to recycle, so the next people could enjoy the beach without trash!! Bird nesting areas for birds currently, if you love birds and beaches you will love this place!
Brad L — Google review
Hard to know that this is the park. Little Talbot has a huge entrance with a ranger station. We drove right past Big Talbot and ended up at the marina. Thankfully, a ranger was there and escorted us to the park! Bit of a hike for us old folks. Wish there were benches or tables half way to beach. Beautiful, clean beach!
Kate W — Google review
tall oaks and pines and well shaded.Note that Google Maps says dogs are allowed, but they are *not* allowed on the beach. Dogs are only allowed in the parking lot and on the trail.
Sarah G — Google review
This place was private, off the grid, and absolutely beautiful. Love to exploring it with my children and wife. So relaxing we brought a hammock and was able to take a nap on the beach. A little hidden secret worth a trip. There is some walking to get to the beach ,but doesn't seem that bad. Most of it is in the shade and is very flat. Best to go early in the morning if possible and bring a lunch.

I love the boneyard Beach. I recently biked up the timucuan trail from Little Talbot Island and thru to Amelia island and it was a nice ride. I highly recommend it. There was a side trail from the parking area that takes you to boneyard Beach I think it was about 10th of a mile maybe quarter mile that's a pretty easy hike although I was on my bike.If you're visiting the north Florida area and you like coastal scenery, the Talbot Islands are a must see. I'm looking forward to going back there soon. There's also a lot of wildlife especially birds.

Big Talbot Island State Park is my favorite spot for a quick escape into nature. The park's Boneyard Beach, with its iconic driftwood, feels almost otherworldly. I love hiking through the lush maritime forests and finding the perfect spot for a picnic with ocean views. Kayaking or paddleboarding along the coast is always a treat, especially when I spot dolphins playing in the water. The wildlife here is amazing, making it a great place for birdwatching. Whether I'm looking to relax or go on an adventure, Big Talbot Island State Park never disappoints.

Absolutely beautiful. Boneyard Beach is a must-see! The area costs $3 to enter and they take cash or card. Went on Labor Day and it wasn't super crowded. Gets less crowded the farther down the beach you go.Bed aware that the beach is a decent hike from the parking lot. No elevation changes, but it's about a mile in distance.
Sam L — Google review
Location of the trail is on the beach side of the highway. Women had her car broken into which prompted us to leave early. Beach was closed do to repair. Other than that it’s a nice walk or bike ride on the trails. Recommend biking.
Greg S — Google review
Cool to stop quick and take a photo. Many different entrances hidden on a busy road. Enter one of them, park, then hike to the beach. Lots of people there taking photos of enjoying the day at the beach. Also called the boneyard grave - they offer protection from hurricanes & erosion and it is always changing with each storm. No bathrooms.

The Little Talbot Island State Park is a perfect place for relaxation with its sandy beaches and natural wildlife. The park offers a variety of outdoor activities for visitors to enjoy, such as hiking, beachcombing, surfing and fishing.
Absolutely loved this gem! Went on a weekday right as they opened and had the beach to ourselves til 11.Incredible amounts of beautiful shells! So much to see and do. Didn't get a chance to the trails, I wish we had planned a whole day here instead of just a half day. Make this part of your vacation, you won't be disappointed! $5 per car, you can pay cash or credit through the app.

Absolutely gorgeous! We went during the week of March 15 (2024) and practically had the place to ourselves! Great trails and beach! The fallen sun-bleached trees made this beach so unique!

This is a great beach to go to. The sand is soft and clean. The Rangers are very helpful and very nice. The bath houses are very clean and there are places to change as well as go to the bathroom. Dogs are not allowed on the beach. We did get to see some tortoises near one of the bath houses and it was super cute. Hoping to catch a glimpse of sea turtles the next time we go.

Little Talbot Island was a great place to visit. I recently biked through it. The the scenery was nice and the timucuan trail was all paved. you should bring what you need as far as snacks and supplies. Also be careful of the dangerous currents at the southernmost end of the park. There are plenty of signs warning of the danger in that area. And the area is blocked off.I plan to go back soon to do some of the hiking trails and spend more time on the beach. On the day I biked thru the park which was in the second week of April it was very breezy so I didn't have to worry about mosquitoes but I think if your biking through there later in the season you might want to make sure to bring some bug spray.
Jack B — Google review
Nice beach, not overly crowded like the beaches a little more south in Jax. Parking is reasonably priced. The parking lot and shore were very clean. Best of all, no rowdy people, just friendly people having fun while respecting personal space of others. There's a small tide pool with very small fish swimming around. Most of the children were hanging out in that area. The water in the tide pool is much warmer than the ocean.
AnonCarrot — Google review
If you dont mind paying the park fee it is worth it because there are not many people along the miles of beach. Nice bathroom facilities. There are many areas with tide pools and they are fun to play and splash around. There is also a seperate campground area. Mostly for tent camping but did see a couple RVs there. There are some nice shaded spots and sites come with a picnic table and a fire pit.

We decided to drive out to LTI on a Sunday. The weather was beautiful and it was so worth the 40 minute drive. You simply can’t beat the picture perfect views and the sounds of crashing waves while walking along the beach. There are really nice trails and picnic tables for sitting in different areas. The parking is plentiful and the grounds are well maintained. This beach should definitely be considered as a go to for a photography hot spot, as it checks all the boxes for amazing backgrounds. Overall it’s well worth a visit and the 5 star review so I would highly recommend. One small warning would be to make readers of this review aware of the sand fleas. Walk around and take in all the scenery but don’t let the kiddos roll around in the sand.

I was in Jacksonville and had a couple free hours one day. I decided to check out Little Talbot Island State Park. The park is convenient to get to and has a nice beach. Good shells and cool ghost trees. Went on a weekday and not crowded. I had some trouble finding the Dune Ridge Trail (a wooded trail to the beach) but once on it I enjoyed the loop out to the beach. If you like the beach I'd recommend Little Talbot Island. Someone mentioned bringing bug spray and that is good advice.

Another of Florida's Beach State Parks. Like many others, LTISP is suffering from massive storm damage. A large portion of the park is closed and may not re open. The parts that are open make for a relaxing day at the beach. With so much closed though, the pavilions go fast so if that's in your plans get there early. Remember...Gopher Tortoise have the right of way!

My wife and I went to little Talbot island for a day hike and it did not disappoint. The hike goes thru the wood or you can start on the beach side your choice . The woods took about 45 minutes and the beach took us longer cause we stoped and took pictures of the beautiful scenery. To enter the park it’s 5 dollars per car with 4 people If only 1 person in the car it’s 4 dollars they open at 8 am and close at sunset . There is plenty of parking , bring chairs and sit in the beach after the hike and watch the dolphins go by. If you are in the area give this place a try you will love it as we did .

We were absolutely blown away with how much we loved the beach here at Little Talbot Island. It was gorgeous, smooth sand, lots of seashells, and most of all quiet. There were very few people around when we visited. This is a beach I want to come to again and again. I cannot recommend it enough. Beautiful island!!

Best local state park, not only is it beautiful but during certain months the water is crystal clear. Many places to explore, you can walk through the driftwood and at low tide you can discover many shells, sand dollars and starfish. I usually can explore over 6 miles on my weekly walks.

My wife loves to collect shells and she found a lot of shells to pick up and we didn't have cars or trucks on the beach.

It's worth the drive!! The beach is wide, very clean, not crowded, and has many sea shells to add to your collection!! It's so much better yhan Jax beach and the parking is great eventhough you pay a couple dollars for it which is not much. The natural, tropical scenery without the crowdedness of a city beach makes it a better experience.

The Catty Shack Ranch Wildlife Sanctuary is a place where rescued exotic cats, such as tigers, lions, and pumas live in a beautiful and sustainable environment. The ranch can be visited with guided tours day or night, during which visitors learn about the animals and their natural habitats.
Okay so the first thing you should know is that the park is smack dab in the middle of a low-key cute residential area which totally threw us off. When we pulled up we were expecting a backyard zoo because of the location, but man were we were wrong. They said they have 200 acres or developing, right now I'd say it's probably more like 8 acres that they actually have built up. You can tell that they are trying their best to give the tigers a nice life with waterfalls, swimming pools, toys, cabins. There's a lot more than just tigers here, they've got a very cute black bear, a black leopard, and some other small cats. Including their resident kitty cat that roams fearlessly. We went for the feeding experience and it was absolutely worth it. We got so many amazing pictures, and got to see so many beautiful big cats. This is an absolutely excellent place to come with the whole family regardless of age. Don't forget to buy some T-shirts at the gift shop, or a stuffed animal for the kids because that small places like this, every dollar counts towards keeping it running. We're excited to come back in a couple of years and see all of the progress that they have made. (We live very far away)

I had a wonderful experience visiting Catty Shack Ranch. The animals, especially the tigers, lions, and bears, were beautiful and looked well-fed and healthy. It was amazing to see them so active, especially during the feeding activity, which really brought them to life. Although the place is small, it’s run by donations and dedicated volunteers who were incredibly helpful and welcoming. It’s a great cause, and I highly recommend visiting and supporting their efforts to care for these magnificent animals. A truly unique and memorable experience!

Catty shack was BEYOND AMAZING!!!! Not as huge as a zoo but well thought out and a lot of information that definitely makes it worth while! Very clean and well kept! Staff are very knowledgeable, and definitely love their job!!!! Best time to go is when it’s feeding time because let me tell ya hearing a lion eat is amazing! So majestic wouldn’t want to be the food but just amazing to see them! Highly recommend you stopping by and checking them out! Huge thank you to the staff that made me kids day!!!!

We went for their night time feeding. We purchased the package that came with a shirt of your choice and a drink.I was pleased to see they had sugar free options for the snowcones. The tour starts off self guided, and I would highly recommend using the complimentary bug spray they have. The paths are dirt, so wear shoes you feel comfortable getting a little dirty in.There is a spot before you go back where the animals are to use the restroom which is a trailer style, or sit and eat or drink from the concession stand they have. They also have some chickens and cats that roam around. All of the enclosures look to be well kept, and you can see that they are replacing or adding new pieces to them. All of the animals have their name and a little history of where they came from on plaques. The volunteers are very friendly and interact with the animals. The evening was quite educational and fun to hear some of the big cats voice their opinions about sharing their dinner with us.The Catty Shack is not state funded, nor do I believe city funded, so they need all the donations/visitors they can in order to keep taking care of these wonder animals.I would highly suggest going for the night feeding tour.

I brought my family from out of state and we all had the best time. The volunteers are so knowledgeable and friendly and love to help and answer questions. The cats are so well cared for, that you can see for yourself they are happy and content. They don't just hide and sleep like at the zoos. We will come back for sure.

Absolutely adored this experience! It was only $15 to walk around (not watch feedings), and it was worth every penny. The cats are beautiful and there are many more than we were expecting! They have bug spray available on the tables as well, which was very nice (and much needed).Only caveat: wear shoes that can get muddy!!!!!

If you get a chance,visit...great place..and donate to them..they take very good care of the animals, some were abandoned, displaced..

We went for the evening feeding which, if you're into Big Cats (or not) is a great experience. All of the animals look to be very well cared for: shiny coats, energetic, and with nicely maintained enclosures. The real treat, though, is watching them come alive as they realize their feeding time approaches. They go from typical zoo lazy to running, jumping, playing, and growling. The volunteer staff are all nice and knowledgeable and clearly care about these beautiful creatures. I highly recommend the evening feeding!

I really don't know why some people have given this sanctuary such low stars, this is a sanctuary not a zoo it isnt for entertainment! And do you think the places they got these animals from where better ...well that's a NO and we should be helpful that these animals have found a forever home :)The habitats are clean and well kept they are even adding waterfalls/pools to them !The staff/volunteers were so friendly and so informative !Please check out their Amazon wish list to help with items they need. They are a 501c and dont reveive government help !

These cats were well taken care of and they had a relationship with the volunteers they were interacting with. You could hear them chuffing & vocalizing with staff & they got excited when they saw them coming. It was educational and they were building even larger enclosures when we visited. The kids loved it! (Except when the lynx tried to back that thang up to spray my teenaged son for taking pictures too close...which made him drop his phone over the restricted fence line 🤣🤣🤣)

I have lived in Nassau County and Duval County my entire life and have failed to make it here until yesterday. It was a wonderful experience and I will certainly be back. We did the enrichment tour which was really fun as the cats got really excited about the boxes of chicken and were super active. The volunteers were really amazing and told us all about the cats and their personalities/ why the cats are at catty shack. It was a great time.

Such a fun place to visit! Highly recommend coming for the night feedings. Not only were the animals more active but you also get to speak with volunteers/employees and learn so much more than usual. The shack also has 3 cute house kitties running around that are so sweet too - definitely pet if you see them! Very cool preserve and will be coming back to support in the future.
